About the role

As a member of the Facilities Department, the Custodial Specialist primary purpose is to maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable facility for our youth, staff, and our guests by successfully performing the day-to-day housekeeping activities assigned at the Avenue Saint Johns location and other CHNYs Bronx locations.

What you'll do

• Perform day-to-day custodial activities as assigned.
• Perform regular cleaning of the facility, including but not limited to floor care (vacuuming, polishing, buffing, waxing, stripping, and disinfecting), residential units (rooms, shared space, offices, bathrooms), etc.
• Perform daily custodial services for the facility by communicating with the staff in those areas about when those routine services are needed, i.e., cleaning assignments in all common areas, office / work stations, recreational areas, etc.
• Report all accidents and / or safety concerns to your supervisor during the shift in which they occur.
• Attend and / or participate in trainings and in-services, especially the mandatory sessions.
• Practice established infectious control protocols and universal precautions while performing tasks.
• Practice proper chemical handling techniques, including but not limited to the policies governing labels and MSDSs.
• Perform routine maintenance on grounds, parking areas, driveways, etc., including but not limited to sweeping, shoveling snow, spreading ice melt, and removal of garbage.
• Ensure that work / cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical.
• Maintain adequate supply or inventory levels and report inventory needs in advance.
• Report any need for maintenance repairs to your supervisor immediately.
• Follow all established safety procedures while performing tasks.
• Ensure that work areas are clean and equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored before leaving areas for breaks, mealtimes, and end-of-the-day.
• Performs other duties as assigned and / or needed.
