About the role
Seeking a skilled IT Solutions Architect to serve as a senior technical advisor for the Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO). This role focuses on designing and integrating enterprise technology solutions, including AI capabilities, to support mission-critical maritime and aviation operations. The ideal candidate is experienced in operational environments with unique constraints, such as shipboard and aircraft systems, and is passionate about advancing technology in federal operational settings.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of end-to-end IT architectures for shipboard, aircraft, uncrewed systems, and shore-based facilities.
- Translate operational requirements into secure, scalable, and cost-effective IT solutions incorporating AI analytics and automation.
- Identify and implement AI use cases to enhance operational efficiency, predictive maintenance, and real-time situational awareness.
- Collaborate with program offices, engineering teams, and external stakeholders to ensure interoperability and compliance with federal IT policies.
- Provide expert technical guidance to CIO, senior leadership, and project managers during planning and deployment phases.
- Oversee technology evaluations, proof-of-concept testing, and integration of emerging technologies including cloud, edge computing, and AI models.
- Develop and maintain enterprise reference architectures, solution blueprints, and integration standards with AI governance.
- Serve as technical escalation point for complex design and interoperability challenges.
- Ensure solutions incorporate redundancy, disaster recovery, cybersecurity best practices, and AI model monitoring.

Job Requirements
Proven experience in enterprise IT architecture and systems integration for maritime and aviation environments.Demonstrated expertise with shipboard IT systems, aircraft mission systems, and secure remote operations.Strong knowledge of AI concepts, model deployment, and integration into mission-critical systems.Familiarity with federal IT security frameworks such as FISMA, NIST, and NOAA cybersecurity policies.Ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate technical efforts across multiple locations.Exceptional communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.Understanding of AI regulatory and ethical considerations in federal environments.Willingness to work onsite in Silver Spring, MD at least 3 days per week.Possession of a Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain one.Alignment with mission-driven work supporting NOAA's marine and aviation operations.
