A Fire Alarm and Security Designer Engineer creates and implements fire protection and security systems for buildings, ensuring compliance with codes and client needs. Key responsibilities include designing fire alarm and security systems using software like AutoCAD, creating detailed drawings and specifications, conducting site surveys, performing calculations, and collaborating with architects, clients, and contractors. They must have a strong knowledge of relevant codes, such as the NFPA and IBC, and be adept at troubleshooting and technical problem-solving.
Responsibilities
Design fire alarm and security systems, including floor plans, riser diagrams, and wiring details.
Create technical documentation, specifications, and bill of materials.
Ensure all designs comply with fire and security codes, such as NFPA, IBC, and local regulations.
Conduct site surveys, risk assessments, and code compliance evaluations.
Perform engineering calculations, including battery and voltage drop calculations.
Collaborate with clients, architects, project managers, and contractors to meet project requirements.
Provide technical support and advice to other team members and stakeholders.
Review contractor submittals and shop drawings.
Troubleshoot design challenges and resolve issues that arise during design or construction.
Assist in preparing cost estimates and bids
