Job Summary / Basic Function
The Financial Aid Counselor helps students and families understand and apply for financial aid from federal, state, institutional, and private sources. This position supports the daily operations of the Financial Aid Office and ensures that all aid is processed accurately and on time.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree and at least one year of customer service experience
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field required, along with demonstrated experience in public speaking, financial aid administration, and the Banner system, as well as proficiency and Microsoft Excel and Access.

Job Duties
Description of Job Duties
Advises students and families on eligibility requirements, application procedures, and financial aid options, while also providing information on financial literacy and debt management. They review and process verification documents, assist with packaging, awarding, disbursement, and reconciliation of financial aid programs.
The counselor manages the private loan program, certifying loans, verifying eligibility, ensuring awards stay within budget limits, and reconciling records with the Business Office. They also calculate Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4) for students who withdraw and serve as the main contact for study abroad students regarding financial aid eligibility and processing. Additional duties include processing financial aid applications, participating in outreach programs, and presenting financial aid information at on-campus and community events. To stay current with changing regulations, the counselor attends professional training sessions and conferences. This position may require additional hours, including some evenings and Saturdays for events and performs other duties as assigned.
