College Intern Risk Assessment (Summer 2026)
The Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) is seeking up to two dedicated and detail-oriented college students to join the Office of Risk Assessment (ORA) for a full-time summer internship in 2026. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in insurance regulation, financial solvency monitoring, and corporate governance review. Interns will work closely with experienced analysts and examiners to support ODI's mission of protecting Ohio insurance consumers and promoting a stable, competitive insurance market. This is a paid, temporary position based in Columbus, Ohio, with standard hours of 8 : 00 AM to 5 : 00 PM, Monday through Friday, for the duration of the summer.
Key Responsibilities :
- Assist analysts in reviewing insurance company filings, including statutory financial statements, audited financial reports, and corporate governance annual disclosures.
- Support financial examination teams by helping gather and organize documentation during examinations of licensed insurers.
- Contribute to the review process for insurance company expansion applications by compiling and analyzing relevant information.
- Conduct research on insurance companies using statutory accounting resources and other internal tools to assess their business profiles, financial condition, and overall industry reputation.
- Attend meetings with insurance companies to observe discussions related to operations, corporate governance, and accounting practices.
- Enter and maintain accurate data in internal databases and assist with scanning, organizing, and filing documents.
- Perform general administrative and support tasks as assigned by the Risk Assessment team.

Must be enrolled in higher education program with sophomore standing or higher with a concentration in Risk Management and / or Insurance, finance, or accounting, and have a 2.5 GPA or higher.
Must have superb organizational skills, the ability to work in a team-oriented atmosphere and experience working with Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook.
