Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Tele position at an academic Level 1 trauma center, requiring a NC or compact RN license and strong MST background.

Responsibilities

  • Position is on a 29-bed Med / Surg Telemetry unit in a hospital setting
  • Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital environment
  • Patient population includes general medicine, diabetes, gastrointestinal, respiratory, renal, wounds, chest tubes, and tracheostomies
  • RN patient ratios are 1 : 5-6
  • 12-hour day shifts from 06 : 30 to 19 : 00, three days per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • No call required
  • Float to other Med / Surg units as needed
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • Epic EMR and Alaris IV pumps used; Omnicell for med dispensing
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring
  • Free employee parking provided
  • Responsibilities include direct and indirect patient care, telemetry monitoring, wound management, and phlebotomy
  • Support structure includes charge nurse, CNAs, reception / HUC, 24 / 7 RT, Rapid Response, hospitalists and intensivists
  • Orientation includes hospital onboarding and 2 days of departmental training
  • Unit emphasizes patient-centered care and strong teamwork culture
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • RTO (time off) subject to manager approval
  • First-time travelers are considered if they have extensive Med / Surg Tele experience

    • Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Med / Surg Telemetry experience
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring and interpreting rhythm strips
  • Experience with chest tubes, tracheostomies, PIV starts, drains and tubes, and PCA pump management
  • Proficiency in Epic charting preferred
  • NIHSS certification required if joining Resource Team
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
