Fleet Division Assistant
Under close supervision, provides general assistance for a limited period of time in support of assigned operations. Duties will vary based on work assignments and needs of the department. Current need is within the Fleet division of the Public Works department. This recruitment is for a part-time, non-benefited position limited to 919 hours of employment in a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) with an average of less than 30 service hours per work week. Unclassified hourly employees are paid on an hourly basis and shall not be eligible for benefits nor be subject to Civil Service Rules. Although hourly employees are at-will, they are still subject to all other City policies and procedures. Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, managing and maintaining inventory levels, ensuring accuracy between physical inventory and system records, collaborating with other team members to streamline inventory processes.
Knowledge of procedures and practices of stockroom operations; inventory management and quality control procedures; general storeroom practices; accounting and record keeping of inventory control and storeroom operations; materials storage safety practices and procedures; safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work; computerized inventory control system operations; English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; computer equipment and software applications related to assignment. Ability to operate computer equipment and software applications related to assignment; use and operate tools and equipment related to assignment, including personal protective equipment; interpret and follow written instructions, and equipment manuals; use initiative and sound independent judgment within established guidelines; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner. On an intermittent basis, sit at desk for long periods of time; intermittently walk, stand, bend, squat, twist and reach while retrieving and / or returning parts or supplies; perform simple grasping and fine manipulation; use telephone and use a keyboard to communicate through written means, review information and enter / retrieve data; lift objects up to 10 lbs. above shoulder level; on occasion, lift objects up to 50 lbs. above shoulder level, transport objects weighing over 75 lbs. with assistance; see in the normal vision range with or without correction to read business documents and characters on a computer screen; hear in the normal range with or without correction. Work is performed in a shop environment with fluorescent lighting and moderate noise level. Tasks may require working in tightly enclosed spaces. Some exposure to hazardous materials and substances may occur in the course of work. Some movement is required from office to office and there is exposure to the external environment when going to outlying offices or meetings. Work is frequently disrupted by the need to respond to in-person and telephone inquiries.
