Patient Transport Supervisor

Work Schedule : Mon-Fri 7am to 3 : 30pm with weekend availability required

Responsible for leading the daily operations of the Patient Transport department at Methodist Hospital. Supervises a team that safely and efficiently moves patients, equipment, and specimens throughout the hospital. Key responsibilities include coordinating patient transfers between units, to diagnostic and surgical areas, and supporting discharges. Ensures timely service, patient safety, and a positive patient experience while working closely with clinical teams and developing staff to support overall hospital efficiency.

Essential Functions

Duties #1 - 50%

Oversees daily operations of the Patient Transport Department.

Prepares and maintains work schedules for assigned staff to ensure duties are covered on a daily basis.

  • Ensures overtime is used appropriately.
  • Adjusts staffing appropriately to meet work demands.
  • Including working as needed

Oversees and supports the Team Leads with

  • Conducting orientation training, in-service training, and performance improvement training by explaining departmental policies, work procedures, and demonstrating use and maintenance of equipment to ensure staff is competent and proficient on departmental tasks.
  • Maintaining assigned equipment by reporting needed maintenance promptly and removing defective equipment from service to ensure staff has the right equipment and is able to work safely at all times.
  • Scheduling equipment repairs and replacements
  • Adheres to safety and infection control guidelines by use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by Patient Transport staff when necessary, according to the Infection Control policies to ensure a safe environment.

    Is able to understand and operationalize the mission, vision, core values, Leadership Standards of Behavior, and policies / procedures.

    Duties #2 - 25%

    Attends internal meetings to ensure oversight and compliance regarding environmental services issues within the health system.

    Participates in mandatory in-service and / or continuing education programs as mandated by policies and procedure, external agencies and as directed by management.

    Reviews and approves employee time and attendance records, addresses variances, and ensures payroll is submitted correctly and on time each week.

    Duties #3 - 15%

    Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

    Job Requirements

    Education :

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D) required.
  • Associates Degree preferred.
  • Experience :

  • 2 years of customer service experience, preferably in a healthcare setting, required.
  • 1 year previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Previous patient care or patient escort experience preferred.
  • Skills / Knowledge and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of management principles preferred.
  • Skilled in planning, delegation, time-management, and problem-solving required.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Outlook, required.
  • Knowledge of Capacity Management Application preferred.
  • Knowledge of Cerner preferred.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for positive interaction with staff and patients required.
  • Excellent customer service skills required.
  • Able to read, write and comprehend various written reports and documents required.
