Director of Design Location : Chicago, IL (Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week)

Salary Range : $160,000 – $200,000

We are seeking a Director of Design to lead and grow a talented design team within a fast-paced, consulting-driven environment. This is an opportunity to shape the vision for user experience and product design across enterprise-level projects, while partnering with innovative organizations to deliver elegant, data-driven digital solutions.

In this role, you will guide design strategy, oversee execution, and foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. You’ll also play a key role in client engagement, helping define project scopes, lead workshops, and ensure that design solutions align with both user needs and business objectives.

Responsibilities Lead and participate in pre-sales conversations regarding design services; help estimate scope and effort

Oversee and manage overall team performance, project allocation, and individual growth

Plan and facilitate stakeholder workshops to uncover opportunities for improving products and services

Conduct generative user research to inform design strategy and scope

Create service design blueprints, journey maps, information architecture schemas, and other strategic deliverables

Partner with Product Leads to define goals, gather requirements, and translate them into actionable design plans

Design concepts and rapid prototypes to validate requirements, user experience goals, and feasibility

Develop and own design documentation such as process maps and design briefs

Estimate project effort and plan design sprints based on discovery findings

Oversee design delivery and quality across wireframes, UI comps, and final outputs

Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a design-related field, or equivalent experience

7+ years of experience in product discovery, user research, and design leadership

Strong consulting background, with proven experience working across enterprise environments

Deep understanding of user research, journey mapping, workflow design, and information architecture

Experience defining and delivering design for enterprise applications, eCommerce platforms, and / or large marketing websites

Portfolio showcasing mastery of design standards, processes, and cross-team collaboration
