Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU / Day Surgery position in an acute care setting with call and weekend requirements.
Responsibilities
Work in the PACU / Day Surgery Unit of an acute care hospitalUnit includes 6 beds in Phase 1 and 10 beds in Phase 2, with 1 : 1 nurse-patient ratios based on ASPAN guidelinesCares for adult and pediatric post-anesthesia patients recovering from ENT, orthopedic, general, GYN, endoscopy, ophthalmology, dental, and urology proceduresShifts include 8, 10, or 12 hours with variable start times between 0600 and 0900, spanning day and evening hoursCall required with weekday call from 2030-0600, and every 10th or 11th weekend (entire weekend call coverage)Rotation of holiday coverage with permanent staffFloating to Admitting, Phase 1, and Phase 2 requiredEpic EMR used for charting; experience preferredPrimary responsibility involves recovery of post-anesthesia patients transitioning from Phase 1 to Phase 2 or dischargeICU patients are recovered in ICU, not in the PACUCharge nurse may carry an assignment if necessaryNo nurse aides present for supportDedicated respiratory therapist, hospitalist, and pharmacy support available 24 / 7Preference for candidates with ICU experienceOne week of unit-specific orientation providedScrub attire is providedPediatric recovery experience is not required but may care for some pediatric patientsDue to housing limitations, special arrangements must be made for travelers with petsRequirements
Active RN license in the state of OregonMinimum of 2 years of recent RN experienceCurrent certifications required : BLS, ACLS, PALSMust be familiar with both Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery processesAbility to read and interpret telemetry strips is requiredExperience with ventilator troubleshooting (840s and travel vents) preferredTeamwork skills and ability to work effectively with others are essentialBenefits
