Transportation / Litigation Paralegal Job Details Job Location WI - Milwaukee, WI Transportation / Litigation Paralegal Scopelitis, Garvin, Light, Hanson & Feary, a law firm based in Indianapolis, Indiana, with offices located in major cities throughout the United States, has an opening for a full-time Transportation / Litigation Paralegal in its Milwaukee, Wisconsin office.
The candidate will provide diverse paralegal services in state, federal and agency litigation, have experience with the use of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Net Docs, iTimekeep, and other document management software, and possess excellent verbal and written communication and time management skills.
Our office works collaboratively, produces high level legal work, and tries to have some fun along the way.
Duties and responsibilities will include :
- Meeting with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects;
- Drafting correspondence , pleadings, discovery, and open record requests;
- Requesting, reviewing, and organizing medical and employment records;
- Cite checking of briefs utilizing Westlaw and Lexis research software;
- Performance of background checks and social media searches;
- Deposition and trial preparation with p otential attendance at trials and hearings which may include travel;
- Daily timekeeping responsibilities in accordance with the billing guidelines of the firm and its clients; and
- Such other related duties as assigned.
Required skills and abilities will include :
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, e-filing, and other related matters;
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as a team member;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines;
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced, ever changing, and sometimes stressful environment; and
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
Preferred candidates will have 2+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal or legal assistant and possess a paralegal certificate from an ABA-accredited program and / or a Bachelors degree.
