The Federal Reserve is the central bank of the United States and is one of the most influential, trusted, and prestigious financial organizations. It consists of twelve Reserve Banks located around the country and the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta territory covers the Sixth Federal Reserve District, which includes Alabama, Florida, and Georgia, and portions of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The Atlanta Fed and the other Reserve Banks play an important part in all three of the Feds functions : monetary policy, bank supervision and regulation, and the operation of a nationwide payment system.
The Office of Employee Benefits (OEB), located in Newark, N.J., comprises a staff of 64 professionals who oversee benefit programs for approximately 80,000 current and former employees of the Federal Reserve, and their beneficiaries. The OEB was established in 1934 to administer the Federal Reserve Systems Retirement Plan. Over time, the OEBs responsibilities have expanded to include additional retirement benefits, health benefits, life insurance, long-term disability, and other personal protection plans. The OEBs mission is to be a center of excellence, providing leadership in formulating employee benefit programs and operating these programs on behalf of the Reserve Banks, Board of Governors and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau with outstanding customer service, sound and cost-efficient operations, professional expertise, and ongoing innovation.
