Overview Our client is seeking a
Cybersecurity Consultant – Industrial to support critical Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) security initiatives for utility and industrial environments. This role focuses on cybersecurity assessments, penetration testing, secure system design, and compliance execution aligned with NIST and industry-specific frameworks.
This is a
high-visibility, hands-on role requiring frequent onsite presence across multiple Virginia client locations. Candidates must be local, able to travel extensively, and comfortable working in industrial and regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities - Execute cybersecurity projects supporting IT and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) security initiatives
- Perform network penetration testing, web application security testing, and vulnerability assessments
- Assess and secure OT environments, including ICS and SCADA systems
- Implement cybersecurity controls, policies, and procedures aligned with: NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) Industry and regulatory compliance standards
- Identify operational risks and recommend design or procedural improvements
- Conduct post-event cybersecurity analysis and support corrective actions
- Develop and document secure network designs, firewall architectures, and access controls
- Compile technical documentation including: Network traffic analysis Firewall services and security diagrams
- Communicate technical risks and remediation strategies to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of all client and project information
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal technical teams
- Pursue and maintain relevant cybersecurity certifications
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
- Minimum years of relevant cybersecurity experience (must be clearly reflected on resume)
- Hands-on experience with: Cybersecurity vulnerability assessments and penetration testing Firewalls, access control, authentication, logging, patching, and malware protection
- Strong understanding of ICS, SCADA, and OT security in environments such as: Utilities Manufacturing Oil & Gas Transportation Smart buildings and infrastructure
- Knowledge of modern and legacy networking and telecommunications
- Experience with physical network cabling and control system I/O
- Strong written, verbal, and technical documentation skills
- Ability to operate under pressure in onsite industrial, corporate, and government environments
Preferred Certifications (Active or in progress)
- Ethical Hacking / Penetration Testing
- Network Engineering
- ICS / SCADA Security
- Risk Management or equivalent cybersecurity certifications
