A school near San Francisco, California is looking for an Orientation Mobility Specialist (OMS)for the full 2024-2025 school year.
This is a contracted, full-time position helpingstudents in grades K - 12th.We are seeking a kind and caring applicant who wants to work with kids of all levels and satisfies the requirements listed below.
As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, you will provide specialized instruction and services to visually impaired students, helping them to achieve optimal independence through the development of personal mobility skills.
This role requires a deep understanding of the challenges faced by visually impaired students and a commitment to enhancing their educational experience.

- Full time / 37.5-40 hours per week
- Caseload : grades K - 12th, specific caseload details will be discussed during the interview process
- Pay Range : $35 - $50 per hour, depending on prior experience
Requirements :
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Orientation and Mobility, Special Education, or a related field.
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist from ACVREP (Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals) or equivalent.

Daily Responsibilities :
- Conduct assessments to determine students' current orientation and mobility skills and develop individualized plans based on educational needs.
- Provide direct instruction to visually impaired students in skills and techniques for safe and efficient navigation, including the use of mobility aids (e.g., white canes).
- Teach spatial and environmental concepts and skills for orientation purposes.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and parents to integrate mobility training into students educational programs.
- Participate in IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings and contribute to the development of educational goals related to orientation and mobility.
