About the Role
As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll play an essential role in supporting our doctors and Registered Veterinary Technicians while helping deliver outstanding medical care and an exceptional client experience. You'll work closely with the medical team to ensure every patient receives compassionate, efficient, gold-standard care from check-in through discharge.
What You'll Do
- Assist veterinarians and RVTs during examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures
- Safely restrain dogs and cats using low-stress handling techniques
- Prepare examination rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites
- Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and client education
- Collect diagnostic samples including fecal, urine, ear cytology, and blood samples when appropriately trained and delegated under Ohio law
- Support anesthesia preparation and patient monitoring under veterinarian or RVT supervision
- Assist with surgical preparation and patient recovery
- Monitor hospitalized patients and provide basic nursing care, including feeding, walking, cleaning, and comfort care
- Accurately document treatments and patient information in medical records
- Maintain hospital cleanliness, sterilize instruments, and follow infection control protocols
- Stock medical supplies and assist with inventory management
- Support front-of-house workflow and over-the-counter client needs as needed
What We're Looking For
Clinical Skills
- Safe and confident handling of dogs and cats
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology and preventive medicine
- Understanding of common medications, vaccines, and veterinary products
- Ability to perform delegated patient care tasks under veterinary supervision
- Familiarity with surgical preparation and anesthesia support
- Commitment to patient safety and high-quality medicine
- Fear Free handling experience is a plus

Qualifications
- Minimum of one year of experience in a veterinary hospital, animal clinic, or comparable animal care setting preferred
- Experience assisting with surgery and hospitalized patient care preferred
- Comfortable using computers and veterinary practice management software
- Veterinary Assistant certification is welcomed but not required
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and safely assist in handling animals of various sizes
