The Patient Companion/Safety Sitter provides continuous, direct observation and basic non-invasive patient support to promote patient safety, comfort and well-being. This role supports licensed nursing staff by performing limited, clearly defined tasks under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN). Core job responsibilities include providing continuous 1:1 observation for patients requiring enhanced safety monitoring, maintaining a safe patient environment, utilizing de-escalation techniques and therapeutic communication, ensuring call light and personal items are within patient reach, participating in bedside shift report, completing observation documentation, taking initiative in rendering service or responding to needs, assisting with keeping the patient's room safe, orderly and clean, obtaining and recording limited vital signs, measuring and recording non-evasive intake and output, responding to call lights and communicating patient needs to staff, and performing related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, must be 18 years of age, good communication and interpersonal skills, ability to remain alert with uninterrupted focus on the patient at all times. Preferred: 6 months of experience in health care or security. Licensure/Certification Requirements: Ability to obtain BLS certification.
