Job Description
Major duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Provides direct patient/resident care within the scope of CNA certification in inpatient, outpatient, clinic, or community-based settings.
- Assists licensed nursing staff in the delivery of nursing care to patients/residents with acute, sub-acute, or chronic conditions.
- Performs activities of daily living that are complete and supportive, addressing patients' psychological, physical, social, and cultural needs.
- Provides care with dignity and continuous consideration of patients' emotional and psychosocial needs.
- Observes, recognizes, responds to, and reports changes in patient/resident condition to licensed nursing staff.
- Measures, records, and documents vital signs, intake and output, and other clinical information in the computerized patient record system.
- Maintains patient/resident privacy, physical safety, and psychological safety in accordance with Medical Center policy.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment in compliance with Infection Control Standards of Practice.
- Utilizes personal protective equipment and follows safety procedures to prevent exposure to illness, disease, or hazardous materials.
- Demonstrates competency in the technical use of medical equipment and follows standard operating procedures for reusable equipment.
- Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to support optimal patient/resident outcomes.
- Provides support to patients/residents with communication difficulties, cognitive impairment, behavioral challenges, or altered mental status.
- Participates in unit-level and Medical Center activities, meetings, and committee support as assigned.
- Maintains required CNA certification, Basic Life Support (BLS), and completes all mandatory education and training.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
