Job Description

The Department of Biological Sciences at Ohio University Biological Sciences Department | Ohio Universityinvites applications for a Visiting Professor in the area of Molecular Evolutionary Biology with an 80% teaching and 20% research load. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate biology courses covering topics in genetics, evolution, and in the candidate’s area of expertise. Teaching load will typically be three courses per semester. In addition, the candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program and contribute to the training and mentoring of both graduate and undergraduate researchers.

The Visiting Professor position is a full time, nine-month position for the academic year 2026-2027 (from August 16, 2026, to May 15, 2027).

Founded in 1804, Ohio University Athens campus consists of nine colleges and multiple interdisciplinary programs. The Department of Biological Sciences consists of a vibrant intellectual community with curriculum designed to prepare students for specific careers, graduate school, and professional schools. The beautiful and historical Ohio University campus sits at the heart of the city of Athens, a family-friendly and culturally diverse city nestled in the Appalachian foothills.

The city is surrounded by state parks, providing a scenic atmosphere with abundant wildlife and hundreds of miles of nearby hiking, biking, and jogging trails. The dynamic Athens “uptown” is lined with shopping, dining, and coffee shops only steps away from campus. Seasonal festivals, live music, a twice-weekly farmers market, and campus events provide year-round activities. In addition to Athens’ low cost of living and small-town charm, downtown Columbus is just over an hour drive away. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have PhD degree in biological sciences or related field with postdoctoral or related experience. The applicant must also have experience teaching undergraduate courses. Preferred Qualifications The preferred candidate will demonstrate evidence of experience in advising and mentoring students, pedagogical innovations, and teaching large enrollment evolution-based courses.
