FLSA Status: Unpaid Internship


SUMMARY
The intern provides therapy, therapeutic case management and/or parenting time services to client and family in accordance with the Clinical Services Treatment Model & Community Program Service Models. Learning, utilizing and applying evidence-based practices with our families such as Trust Based Relational Interventions (TBRI), Motivational Interviewing and Trauma Sensitivity alongside integration of school to field knowledge growth and foundations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide individual therapy, family therapy, and case management or visitation services (at a rate of a minimum of 5 client engagement hours/week).
  • Provide allied therapies, if applicable (including but not limited to: music, art, movement, recreation, occupational, vocational).
  • Complete the following assessments when applicable; Assessment based upon client and family treatment goals and program orientation.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans, if applicable.
  • Develop crisis and safety plans.
  • Communicate with referral agents and supervisor about progress of the client, and significant needs or issues addressed during therapy, case management or visitation sessions.
  • Provide guidance to and engage in on-going communication/support with Co-Therapists, CoFacilitators or Co-Case Managers, if applicable.
  • Provide family psycho-educational activities tied to comprehensive treatment or case management, when applicable.
  • Coordinate services between various agencies.
  • Act as liaison between family, referring agencies, and other community organizations.
  • Participate in, and complete, all required training to equal 20 hours annually.
  • Maintain client files in the Electronic Health Care System.
  • Complete all necessary documentation and reports in a timely manner, in accordance with County, Medicaid and/or agency standards.
  • Follow through on service authorization requirements for each client.
  • Communicate with county agency and provide documentation in a timely manner to county professionals, when applicable.
  • Attend and actively participate in Clinical Services, Case Management, Family Time or other team meetings.
  • Appropriately access and utilize supervision resources.
  • Adhere to all HIPAA guidelines as well as agency compliance standards.
  • Work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Report immediately any incidents of alleged abuse or neglect.
  • Depending on program, may be required to continue internship through school breaks (ex. Winter holiday break).
  • Other duties as assigned to meet necessary goals of the position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Field-based and/or general office environment (locations may vary).

  • Requires significant use of computer, tablet, phone and/or general office equipment.
  • Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects.
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in-person or on the telephone.
  • Position requires off-site travel for meetings, county and client needs.
  • Ability to operate and have access to a safe and reliable vehicle at all times.
  • Willing and able to drive in various road and weather conditions.
  • Will use personal car or vehicle as required for travel and/or transportation.

TRAVEL

  • Up to 90% of position responsibilities.
  • Will travel for meetings, training, etc. as needed.
  • Must use personal car or vehicle for travel and/or transportation.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Must have a minimum two (2) years’ experience working with children and families in various settings or knowledge on child welfare, child development and other social work competencies.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of valid auto insurance.
  • Required to maintain an active driver’s license and auto insurance during employment.
  • Ability to meet the requirements of the motor vehicle record policy.
  • Ability to satisfactorily pass fingerprinting and background checks.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Language Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Mathematical Skills: Basic math skills with ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Ability to understand percentages, fractions and decimals. Ability to analyze and interpret simple data in a clear way.
  • Reasoning Ability: Responsible for determining plans for clients, reacting decisively in emergency situations and crisis intervention. Escalate issues as appropriate.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Effective organizational skills including the ability to think clearly and logically; to problem solve effectively; written and oral communication skills; and the ability to function with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of local agencies and other community resources that may serve youth, families, and foster care services.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and conflict resolution, knowledge of child development and child welfare system.
  • Ability to autonomously create and manage a schedule which accommodates family needs and meets expectations of the referring party.
  • Comfortable with learning and utilizing new technology resources including Avatar, Trails, and other such systems. Demonstrated ability to train and supervise others.
  • Detail oriented in documentation and communication.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, as well as ability to collaborate with teams.
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism regarding demeanor, language, communication, and boundaries with co-workers and clients.
  • Effective, respectful, and professional written and verbal communication.
  • Rapport building and maintenance with youth, adults, employees, and child welfare/court professionals.
  • Professional boundaries and self-care routines and ability to support others in setting appropriate
    boundaries.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), adequate typing skills, and basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge and use of phone, copier, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to properly install and use car seats and other child vehicle restraint systems.
  • Understanding and application of Trauma Informed Care.
  • Capacity to complete all required training components for position.
  • Bilingual is a plus but not required.
