Job Summary
The Long-Term Substitute for 8th Grade Literacy & Writing is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction that supports students’ reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. This role works closely with school administration and faculty to uphold academic expectations and the mission of Catholic education.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver established literacy and writing curriculum aligned with grade-level standards
- Create engaging lesson plans that promote reading comprehension, writing skills, and literary analysis
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and well-managed classroom environment
- Assess student work and provide timely feedback
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues as appropriate
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and assignments
- Uphold and model Catholic values in classroom instruction and interactions
- Collaborate with administration and faculty to ensure continuity of instruction
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field (required)
- Teaching certification preferred (or ability to obtain)
- Experience teaching middle school literacy or writing strongly preferred
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to effectively engage adolescent learners

Reporting Structure
This position reports to the School Principal and works in collaboration with the middle school teaching team.
