Provides leadership for residential communities by supervising staff, managing operations, fostering student success, and overseeing housing initiatives.

Typical Allocation of Duties:
Supervisor Expectations
Student Staff Leadership, Supervision, and Development
Provide comprehensive leadership for graduate and undergraduate staff, including recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation. Foster a collaborative team environment while setting clear expectations, delivering ongoing training, and developing student staff as emerging leaders within a structured residential curriculum.
Residential Community Engagement, Learning, and Student Support
Cultivate a vibrant residential experience that extends student learning beyond the classroom and supports intellectual, social, and personal development. Facilitate community standards through proactive engagement, education, and when necessary, intervention and conduct processes. Respond to at-risk alerts, provide appropriate referrals, and support students in navigating academic, social, and personal challenges.
Residential Operations, Stewardship, and Responsiveness
Collaboration, Programs, and Institutional Engagement
Build strong partnerships across campus to support the residential experience and institutional goals, including collaboration with faculty, campus services, and families when appropriate. Serve as an active contributor to the broader student experience through required participation in all major institutional programs, including Orientation, Open Houses, and VSU Experiences. Support student leadership structures, departmental initiatives, and ongoing professional development.
Position Requirements & Work Conditions
This is a live-in position requiring the Housing Area Officer to reside within an assigned residential community and maintain a visible and accessible presence for residents and staff.
Required Qualifications
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of related work experience.
