Part-Time Police Logistics Specialist
The City of Coeur d'Alene is looking to add a Part-Time Police Logistics Specialist to their team. This is a non-benefited, 19.5 hours per week position. The Police Logistics Specialist coordinates the administrative details related to maintenance and repair of all Coeur d'Alene Police Department related equipment, including vehicles, purchases, and distributes and tracks all employee equipment and uniforms. Work includes organizing information and maintaining accurate documentation and files; working with insurance and credit card companies; inventory management and data entry into department software and performing basic bookkeeping and accounting. The position works in conjunction with the Fleet Manager & Equipment Specialist and reports directly to a Police Lieutenant. This position works in an office and shop environment and drives vehicles. The job requires a high school diploma or GED, with preferred experience in inventory storage and control, purchasing or other procurement methods; excellent organizational skills; and a calm demeanor.
Examples of Duties
- Assists with vehicle paperwork and documentation to ensure it is complete and up-to-date.
- Liaison regarding all Coeur d'Alene Police department fleet administrative details.
- Assists with research, receives bids, and purchases department vehicles and equipment.
- Assists with emissions testing, recall notifications, insurance claims, maintenance schedules, radio issues, titling, and registration,
- Communicates with various parties including City Shops, Claims Administrators, vendors, and individuals to provide and track equipment information.
- In the absence of the fleet manager, responds to department vehicle break-downs/accidents; arranges towing, obtains quotes and coordinates repairs;
- Maintains stock of consumable materials in patrol vehicles such as crime scene tapes, marking paint, bio-hazard bags, batteries, etc.;
- Coordinates with IT department for vehicle technology repairs as needed;
- Verifies and approves invoices and accounts payable items;
- Assists with data entry and monitoring of information into department software;
- Assists with budget expenditures and forecasts budget proposals for future department needs;
- Ensures vehicle license plates are ordered, transferred, or cancelled;
- Obtains copies of vehicle titles for reselling and licensing;
- Assists with vehicle asset information for depreciation purposes upon selling vehicle;
- Assists with drafting specifications for police equipment and uniforms and prepares bid documents for competitive bids;
- Assists with placing purchase orders for supplies, materials, and equipment through competitive bidding or state contracts.
- Assists with documentation such as reports and correspondence to communicate information and maintain vendor relations;
- Assists with maintaining inventory and related files and documentation;
- Assists with purchases, issues and records all uniforms and equipment for each employee;
- Coordinates uniform alterations and wear and tear replacements over time;
- Stocks and distributes department consumables such as batteries, wipes, envelopes, masks, ticket printer paper, first aid supplies, etc.;
- Responds to management's, supervisor's, co-workers' and citizens' questions and comments in a courteous, thorough and timely manner;
- Performs time management and scheduling functions, meets deadlines, and sets project priorities;
- Perform inventory audits;
- Maintains strict confidentiality of all matters;
- Assists other department and City employees as needed or requested;
- Works with specialty units for equipment needs outside of normal purchasing;
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Tracks, procures and/or produces department forms, pamphlets and brochures;
- Assists with staff reports for vehicle and large equipment purchases and surplus;
- Transports vehicles to off-site facilities for repairs not completed by City Shop or other transportation needs;
- Assists with vehicle assignments for special event officer deployment;
- Provides some grounds maintenance such as snow removal and walkway maintenance;
- Provides logistic support for in-field police investigations and events;
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED;
- Previous experience in purchasing; procurement experience preferred;
- Prefer experience in inventory storage and control;
- Valid driver's license; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
