Overview : We are seeking a Structural Engineer to design and detail structural support systems for automotive conveyor layouts.
This role involves close collaboration with the Mechanical Project Engineer and Project Manager to estimate structural steel quantities for new bids, design supports for ongoing projects, and oversee the creation of structural steel drawings for fabrication.
The Structural Engineer will also coordinate with the field engineer and site superintendent to meet all customer and site requirements.
Key Responsibilities :
- Perform structural calculations, including kip loadings, column sizing, cover plate sizing, beam sizing, and base plate sizing, selecting appropriate structural members.
- Collaborate with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) for state-certified structural and civil drawings.
- Create bid-level structural sketches and estimate total steel quantities for new bids.
- Resolve technical issues with the project team promptly.
- Review drawings from team members before submission to the shop or subcontractors.
- Support the project manager on-site as needed.
- Conduct site visits for meetings and field checks upon request.
Qualifications : Education :
Education :
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Michigan preferred but not required.
Experience :
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing structural support steel for automotive conveyor systems.
- Proficient in structural calculations, member sizing, and stress analysis.
- Familiarity with various structural connection types.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Capability to identify scope changes and prepare detailed change order requests.
