Senior IT Project Manager

The Senior IT Project Manager leads the planning, coordination, and successful delivery of complex IT projects and programs that support organizational goals and technology initiatives. This role provides strategic oversight for project execution, ensuring alignment with business objectives while managing resources, budgets, risks, and stakeholder expectations. The position requires strong leadership, advanced project management expertise, and the ability to guide cross-functional teams while promoting best practices, governance, and continuous improvement across project management activities.
Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of complex IT projects and multi-project programs
Develop and implement project management processes, standards, and best practices
Collaborate with business leaders, technical teams, and stakeholders to ensure projects align with organizational goals
Manage project schedules, budgets, resources, and deliverables to ensure successful outcomes
Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks while managing dependencies and constraints
Conduct system and program assessments and recommend operational or technical improvements
Develop and maintain project documentation including project plans, schedules, governance artifacts, and lessons learned
Ensure projects comply with security, regulatory, and organizational standards
Monitor project performance and provide status reporting to senior leadership and stakeholders
Stay current with emerging project management tools, technologies, and methodologies
Participate in strategic planning initiatives and contribute to organizational decision-making
Lead cross-functional teams and coordinate efforts across multiple departments or technical groups
Mentor junior project managers, project coordinators, and team members to strengthen project delivery capabilities
Professional Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field
712 years of experience in IT project management, program management, or related leadership roles
Strong experience using project management tools such as Microsoft Project, JIRA, Azure DevOps, and Trello
Advanced knowledge of project management methodologies including Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and SAFe
Proven leadership and team mentoring capabilities
PMP (Project Management Professional) certification preferred
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
Familiarity with enterprise IT systems, infrastructure, and technology environments
Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience supporting strategic planning, governance processes, and executive decision-making
Preferred Certifications:
- Program Management Professional (PgMP)
- PRINCE2 Practitioner
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM)
- SAFe Agilist (SA)
- PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)
- DAU Program Management Certifications
- Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)
Salary range for this position is up to $278,000, depending on qualifications, including relevant certifications, education, years of experience, and demonstrated experience supporting Federal Government programs within the field. Candidates with specialized expertise, industry-recognized certifications, and strong Federal contracting experience may be considered at the higher end of the range.
