Coordinator For Student Engagement

The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) at the University of Colorado, Boulder is seeking applications for a Coordinator for Student Engagement! This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and assessing student-centered programs that help create a sense of belonging, connection, community, and inclusive campus experience. This position leads the development and execution of a wide range of events, particularly late-night and weekend programming, including both small-scale initiatives and large, complex campus events. Signature programming includes high-impact engagement opportunities during key times of the academic year such as Halloween, St. Patrick's Day, and Finals, when student connection and support are especially critical. This role manages core programming areas within CSI, advises and supports student boards, and supervises student employees. Additionally, this position collaborates across campus with staff, faculty, and student leaders, and is expected to work a flexible schedule including evenings, late nights, and weekends. The Division of Student Life consists of 36 departments that provide student support and services dedicated to helping students become successful, curious, competent individuals during their time at CU Boulder. The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) serves as a central hub for student engagement, leadership development, and community building. As a student-fee funded Cost Center of the CU Student Government within the Division of Student Life, CSI supports more than 500 recognized student organizations and creates opportunities for students to connect, lead, and grow throughout their college experience. The Center for Student Involvement is committed to creating inclusive and accessible pathways for involvement while intentionally designing experiences that strengthen belonging, engagement, and student development. Through campus events, leadership programs, and collaborative partnerships, CSI helps shape transformative co-curricular experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

Student Engagement & Programming:

  • Lead the vision, development, and execution of assigned student engagement initiatives, with a focus on large scale and recurring events.
  • Plan and implement events ranging from small-scale programs to large and complex campus-wide experiences.
  • Manage all aspects of event execution, including budgeting, logistics, contract negotiation, and assessment.
  • Design and evaluate student learning outcomes; use data and feedback to continuously improve programs.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to expand the reach, impact, and inclusivity of programming efforts.
  • Supervise Program Council in collaboration with the Senior Coordinator for Student Engagement, including staff supervision, event execution, and contract processes.
  • Serve as primary advisor to the Distinguished Speakers Student Board.
  • Provide guidance on event planning, logistics, leadership development, and student board transitions.
  • Assist student boards with budgeting, funding requests, and operational planning.

Human Resource Management:

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student employees and volunteer leaders.
  • Set clear expectations, goals, and performance standards aligned with departmental priorities for student staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and university hiring policies and procedures.

Financial Oversight:

  • Manage and monitor an annual programming budget of approximately $300,000+ in funds for student events and programs.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and oversee expenditure with integrity and accountability.
  • Contribute to annual budget planning within a student government-funded cost center.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, university, and departmental applicable fiscal policies and procedures.

Other duties as assigned:

  • Facilitate presentations, training, and additional programming as needed.
  • Provide support for departmental initiatives, events, and committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least one (1) year of experience related to student engagement, programming, or similar areas.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

Skills and Competencies

  • Advising & Supporting: Demonstrated ability or capacity to develop the skills to effectively advise and support individual and student groups through guidance, feedback, and mentorship. Build strong relationships with student leaders while promoting their growth, decision-making, and leadership development.
  • Assessment, Evaluation & Research: Ability to design and implement assessment strategies with the opportunity to further develop skills in evaluating programs and using data to inform decision-making. Apply assessment practices to enhance student learning, improve program effectiveness, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Communication: Demonstrated ability, or capacity to develop clear, professional, and inclusive communication skills across multiple formats (e.g., one-on-one advising, group facilitation, presentations, and written communication). Effectively conveys information, actively listens, and adapts messaging to engage diverse audiences, build relationships, and support student success.
  • Law, Policy & Governance: Working knowledge of, or ability to learn, relevant institutional policies, compliance requirements, and governance structures. Apply this understanding to ensure programs and practices align with university, state, and federal guidelines while supporting ethical decision-making.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability, or capacity to develop the skills to take initiative, collaborate effectively, and lead projects and initiatives. Build leadership capacity by working with diverse collaborators, including students, colleagues, and campus partners, to plan, implement, and improve programs that respond to campus needs.
  • Organizational & Human Resources: Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and resources effectively, with opportunities to strengthen skills in supervision, budgeting, and operational planning. Supports the recruitment, training, and development of student staff while contributing to a positive team environment.
  • Professional Ethics & Integrity: Demonstrated understanding, or capacity to develop ethical decision-making and professional judgment in alignment with institutional policies and standards, including required obligations (e.g., OIEC, Clery, etc). Exercises appropriate discretion while recognizing the limits of confidentiality, models integrity and accountability, and navigates complex situations with sound judgment, fairness, and respect for all individuals.
  • Technology: Proficiency with, or ability to learn, digital tools and platforms that support program planning, communication, and assessment. Leverage technology to enhance student engagement, streamline processes, and build digital knowledge.
  • Social Justice & Inclusion: Demonstrated dedication to, and continued growth in, advancing equity and inclusion. Apply inclusive practices to create welcoming environments where students feel a sense of belonging and mattering, while engaging thoughtfully with issues of identity, power, and privilege.
  • Student Learning & Development: Understanding of, or ability to learn, student development theory and application in practice. Use this knowledge to design meaningful programs and experiences that support student growth, engagement, and success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in the social sciences, higher education, or college student personnel.
  • 1-2 years of experience planning events in a higher education setting, including late-night or large-scale programs.
  • Experience advising student organizations or student boards.
  • Knowledge of program assessment and student learning outcomes.
  • Familiarity with student development theory.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across diverse identities, cultures
