Job description

Job Title: Tunneling And/Or Underground Project Manager

ObayaSHI Corporation is seeking qualified candidates with experience in Tunneling and/or Underground Project management for projects in the United States. The position involves overall project management, including supervision and coordination of tunneling and underground activities (Slurry, TBM tunnels, SEM tunnels, micro-tunneling, shafts, mining, and any other underground structure works) undertaken by Obayashi Corporation. The position will manage and direct the project team by providing the communication, coordination, and follow-up necessary to meet project goals and objectives, and ensure the successful completion of tunneling and underground projects.

Role & Responsibilities:

Pre-Project Award:

  • Assist the BD group in developing new opportunities and evaluating potential pursuits.
  • Provide meaningful contributions to the estimating and proposal processes for tendering new projects.
  • Lead the development of subcontractor scope packages and pricing.
  • Ensure that the project schedule, budget, and work breakdown structure are developed and in place.

Post-Project Award:

  • Lead the negotiations and establish the terms and scope of work for subcontractor and supplier packages. Manage and direct project staff, craft labor, and subcontractors to achieve project requirements and goals.
  • Accountable for the overall project safety efforts and ensuring safety standards are met and exceeded.
  • Ensures the project complies with all legal, ethical, and environmental standards.
  • Ensures the scope of work, schedule, and budget are clearly defined and understood by senior management and all project participants, including the client.
  • Ensures the project schedule is updated and establishes procedures for measuring and monitoring project progress, including the delivery of materials and subcontractor and supplier progress.
  • Accountable for job costs, review of progress reporting, and project cash flow.
  • Prepares a job costing summary and forecasts, identifying variances to budget, changes to work, unit rates, usage of cash allowances, internal costs, and potential claims and liabilities. Review a monthly cash flow projection and report on variances to the baseline. Establishes specific cost control measures and produces timely cost reports to management.
  • Manages contract changes with Owner, subcontractors, and vendors. Maintains tracking of all project changes. Prepares and delivers required project reporting to the home office and management.
  • Coordinates efforts and communications with joint venture partners, including JV quarterly reporting.
  • Coordinates with the project owner and the construction manager.

Education & Work Experience:

  • A minimum of a BS degree in Civil Engineering or a related degree is required.
  • 10+ years combined experience in construction/engineering for tunneling, mining, or underground works, with 5 years in a leadership role.

Skills:

  • Strong Computer Skills to include Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software and Viewpoint Construction Software is a plus.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies.

Other:

  • Able to work after hours, weekends, and on call when needed.
  • May be located on-site full-time for specific projects.
  • Traveling for meetings and site visits nationwide.
  • Ability to walk and work on outdoor construction job sites.
  • Ability to carry and/or lift up to 40 lbs.
