Job description

Thea Energy Facilities Manager

Thea Energy is leveraging recent breakthroughs in stellarator physics and engineering to create a faster and simpler approach to commercializing fusion energy. The company is reinventing the stellarator using computer-controlled arrays of planar coils thereby replacing the intricate, complex modular magnets required in all other stellarator architectures. Thea Energy is on a mission to create a limitless source of zero emission energy for a sustainable future.

Position Overview

Thea Energy is looking for an experienced, highly motivated Facilities Manager to oversee the physical infrastructure required to build the future of fusion energy. This candidate will interact with the Company's leadership, finance & operations, and technical teams to ensure our labs, production floor, and offices are safe, efficient, and scalable. This role will have a high degree of autonomy, and the ideal candidate must be able to move quickly to support our rapid growth.

Key Responsibility Areas:

  • Manage day-to-day facility operations including building maintenance, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems for both office and high-tech lab environments
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained, with preventative maintenance plans in place for all critical assets
  • Plan and execute facility modifications and expansions to support hiring and installation of manufacturing and test equipment
  • Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and facility budgets
  • Develop expansion plans to account for company growth, working with real estate brokers and negotiating leases for additional space
  • Coordinate with other organization stakeholders to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal building codes and safety regulations
  • Manage and develop company policies, programs, and procedures regarding space planning and asset management
  • Lead space allocation planning for a growing team

Ideal Experience & Skillsets:

  • 7+ years of relevant work experience in facilities management, preferably in an R&D, or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing complex electrical infrastructure and laboratory / manufacturing build-outs.
  • Experience with high vacuum systems
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • OSHA 30hr Certification and a strong safety focus
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
  • Ability to find creative solutions to physical infrastructure problems.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and collaboration skills

Company Benefits:

  • Salary range $85,000-$150,000
  • Comprehensive health benefits (e.g. medical/dental/vision)
  • Employee equity stock options
  • 20 days PTO

Requirements:

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call.
  • Ability to work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.

It's not necessary to meet all of the skillsets outlined above. Please feel free to send us a note and tell us why you would still be a great fit for this role or Thea Energy.

Diversity and Inclusion:

Thea Energy is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating a company of diverse backgrounds. By creating a diverse environment, we will bring new ideas and approaches to solving some of the world's hardest (and most important) problems. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, family or marital status, age, disability, veteran's status, or other characteristic protected by applicable laws and regulations.
