Director Of Financial Reporting

Company - BakeMark - Location - Pico Rivera, California

Reports to - Vice President Corporate Controller - Level - Director

Position Overview

BakeMark is seeking an experienced, highly analytical Director of Financial Reporting to own the integrity and clarity of the company's consolidated financial reporting and to strengthen the connection between Accounting, Financial Planning & Analysis, and business operations.

The Director will be responsible for turning BakeMark's accounting data into meaningful insights that help leadership understand business performance, identify opportunities, and make better decisions.

The Director will own the integrity of BakeMark's consolidated financial statements across its U.S. and Canadian legal entities and its network of approximately 40 branches. The scope includes consolidated Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual reporting, balance sheet and cash flow reporting, reserves and other significant estimates, and the management reporting relied upon by the executive team and the company's private equity sponsor.

As a portfolio company of Clearlake Capital Group, BakeMark operates in a reporting environment with high expectations: a disciplined monthly close and lender and sponsor reporting requirements, all with an emphasis on accuracy, documentation, and timeliness. The Director will work closely with Accounting, Finance, branch management, and external auditors to meet those expectations while continuously improving the quality and efficiency of the reporting process.

The successful candidate will bring the financial discipline of an experienced accounting and reporting professional, combined with the curiosity, business orientation, and communication skills of a strong finance leader.

Role Mandate

The Director of Financial Reporting will be responsible for building a more insightful and actionable view of BakeMark's financial performance. The role will:

  • Coordinate with the Director of Accounting to ensure timeliness, consistency and accuracy of financial statements
  • Produce the Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Consolidated Financial Statements in accordance with reporting timelines.
  • Develop and enhance clear and consistent reporting of financial performance across the enterprise.
  • Review and explain the underlying business drivers behind results.
  • Embrace the philosophy of continuous process improvement in relation to quality, consistency, and appropriateness of management reporting.
  • Develop processes and procedures to enable leaders to move from reviewing historical results to taking informed action.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Financial Reporting

  • Lead the preparation, review, and analysis of consolidated Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Financial Statements.
  • Ensure financial results are reconciled, accurate, complete, timely, and consistent with the company's accounting records and reporting standards.
  • Coordinate, enhance and/or develop key financial metrics that clearly explain revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, profitability and working capital.
  • Analyze actual performance against budget, forecast, prior-year results, and relevant operating benchmarks.
  • Prepare executive-level reporting packages highlighting the most important performance drivers, risks, trends, and opportunities.
  • Present financial results in a manner that is clear and useful to executive, finance, sales, and operating leaders.
  • Ensure consistency of mapping across all entities as it relates to categorization of expenses, reporting definitions, methodologies, controls, and supporting documentation.

Accounting and FP&A Partnership

  • Serve as a primary bridge between Accounting and Finance teams.
  • Translate accounting results into forward-looking business insights.
  • Partner with the Director of Accounting and the FP&A team to ensure results, forecasts, budgets, and performance reporting are reconciled and categorized correctly across all entities.
  • Improve and coordinate the consistency and quality of variance analysis across Accounting and FP&A.
  • Help identify recurring forecasting gaps and determine the business factors contributing to those variances.
  • Work with Director of Accounting to ensure reporting accurately reflects business activity and operational performance.
  • Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, Sales, Operations, IT, and branch management to improve access to meaningful reporting information and key metrics
  • Support strategic planning, forecasting, budgeting, and other enterprise initiatives as needed.

Reporting Infrastructure and Process Improvement

  • Evaluate the company's existing management reporting and identify opportunities to improve clarity, relevance, consistency, and speed.
  • Build scalable reporting tools and dashboards that provide leadership with greater visibility into enterprise and branch performance.
  • Standardize key financial and operating metrics across the organization.
  • Improve the ability to analyze results by branch, region, customer, product, and sales channel.
  • Partner with Accounting, Finance and IT to improve data quality, reporting architecture, and access to financial information.
  • Reduce manual reporting through improved processes, automation, and system utilization.
  • Develop repeatable analytical frameworks that allow management to identify trends and exceptions more quickly.
  • Strengthen reporting controls and ensure confidence in the underlying data.
  • Promote greater consistency in how financial performance is measured and communicated throughout the organization.

Consolidation, Controls, and Audit Support

  • Support the preparation and review of consolidated financial statements.
  • Ensure reporting complies with U.S. GAAP and established company accounting policies.
  • Advise and coordinate with the Controllership function on significant accounting, reporting, and consolidation matters.
  • Support consolidated balance sheet reconciliations and other control activities.
  • Assist with intercompany reporting, reconciliation, and consolidation processes.
  • Support recurring transfer pricing calculations and related intercompany entries between U.S. and Canadian entities.
  • Maintain appropriate support for significant financial results, adjustments, estimates, and management reporting conclusions.
  • Assist with the year-end audit preparation and provision of information requests from external auditors.
  • Contribute to process improvements that enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the close process.
  • Assist the Controllership function in ensuring financial reporting remains disciplined, well controlled, and audit ready.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • 810+ years of progressive experience in audit, financial reporting, accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of consolidated financial reporting and U.S. GAAP and IFRS.
  • Experience in a private equity-backed or lender-reporting environment preferred.
  • Experience analyzing financial performance within a multi-location, branch-based, distribution, manufacturing, food, consumer products, or similarly complex organization.
  • Experience developing management reporting, dashboards, financial analysis, and executive presentations.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, BI and dataset skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills with ability to communicate effectively with senior executives, cross functional peers, operational and branch management.

Leadership Attributes

Business Curiosity: The Director must be motivated to understand what is occurring beneath the reported financial results. This individual will consistently ask why performance changed, what caused the change, and what actions management should consider.

Analytical Rigor: The successful candidate will be able to work through substantial amounts of financial and operational data, separate meaningful trends from noise, and reach well-supported conclusions.

Commercial Orientation: This person must understand that financial reporting is valuable only when it improves decisions. The Director should be interested in customers, products, pricing, margins, sales execution, and local market performance.

Enterprise Perspective: The role requires someone who can evaluate BakeMark as a consolidated organization while also understanding the individual branches, regions, products, and customers that produce the results.

Clear Communication: The Director must be capable of translating detailed financial information into concise messages that business leaders can understand and act upon.

Financial and Accounting Discipline: Although the role is highly analytical and business oriented, it must remain grounded in accurate reporting, strong controls, appropriate documentation, and reporting integrity.
