Psychology Professor - Part-Time

Part-Time Faculty positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. This part-time faculty position includes teaching psychology courses and supporting the on-going programs of Tacoma Community College. This position is responsible for preparing and teaching face-to-face, online and hybrid courses for the Education, Social and Behavioral Science division. This position reports to the Dean for Education, Social & Behavioral Sciences. Prepares and instructs, in person, online and hybrid modalities, transfer level classes in the discipline of Psychology. Candidate will be assigned to teach PSYC& 100 General Psychology with the possibility of also teaching PSYC& 200 Lifespan Psychology depending on interest and availability. Utilizes the college LMS, Canvas, for additional course-related engagement across all course modalities (in person, hybrid and online). Provides course-related communication, advising, and support via scheduled office hours and email accessibility. Complies with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities. Follows established procedures in areas such as submitting syllabi, grades, bookstore orders, and other related administrative procedures. Participates in the college’s professional development and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion events. Required education and experience: Master’s degree in Psychology from an accredited college or university. Experience teaching psychology at the community college level. Demonstrated successful teaching experience in a diverse environment, engaging in activities that promote equity and the success of underrepresented students. Enthusiasm for cultural diversity in the curriculum and the classroom, and reflection on how this manifests, particularly in teaching psychology. Preferred Qualifications Experience and a demonstrated commitment to supporting a learning environment that prioritizes diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racist practices. Graduate coursework in psychology. Experience with teaching methods that incorporate technology and online course development. The Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate: Competence to teach college-level Psychology courses. Competence to teach students of widely varying levels of proficiency and from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles. Classes assigned to the successful candidate may be on Tacoma or Gig Harbor campus, hybrid online, or fully online with an online learning management system (Canvas) component. Evening hours may be required. Part time faculty salary range is per credit hour starting at $1,380.59 to $1,510.48. Salary ranges are subject to any approved COLA’s after initial placement. If applicable, Lab credit hours are paid at 50% the credit hour rate. Professional Services hours are paid at a flat rate of $46.00-$46.00 per hour. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will commensurate with educational background and experience per the Faculty Negotiated Agreement (Article 4.00 Academic Employee Compensation ). Part-time faculty may become eligible for healthcare and retirement benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half-time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Half time is determined based on each institution's definition of full time. Members may 'stack' workloads between other qualifying colleges. A part-time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach, to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part-time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options. Tacoma Community College offers one personal leave day per academic year if the PTF have been awarded a multi-quarter appointment. Sick leave is awarded every quarter based on the full-time equivalent teaching percent.
