Job description

Description

At Gigamon, our purpose is to protect the hybrid networks and data of the largest, most complex organizations on the planet. Certified as a Great Place to Work, we offer a deep observability pipeline that efficiently delivers network-derived intelligence to cloud, security, and observability tools. This helps our customers to eliminate security blind spots, optimize network traffic, and dramatically reduce tool cost and complexity, enabling them to better secure and manage their hybrid cloud infrastructure. Gigamon has served more than 4,000 customers worldwide, including over 80 percent of Fortune 100 enterprises, 9 of the 10 largest mobile network providers, and hundreds of governments and educational organizations. As a Sr. Staff Hardware Engineer, you will drive the design and development of next-generation hardware platforms that enable traffic aggregation and deep network observability. You will work as part of a small, highly collaborative global team, owning board-level design, bring-up, and validation while coordinating closely with JDM/ODM/OEM partners. In this role, you will define system architectures, qualify critical optical components, and support both new product introduction and sustaining activities. Your work will have a direct impact on the performance, reliability, and scalability of Gigamon’s hardware portfolio. What you’ll do:
  • Define high-level system design and hardware architecture specifications for new platforms.
  • Create detailed hardware functional specifications to guide design and implementation.
  • Perform board-level digital circuit design, bring-up, debug, and validation, including high-speed interfaces.
  • Develop and maintain CPLD/glue logic using Verilog RTL and related tools.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering on mechanical and thermal solutions, system assembly, and overall system integration.
  • Partner with Product Operations and Product Management to align hardware design with product requirements and lifecycle plans.
  • Apply understanding of optical communications technologies and lead qualification of new and existing optical components, including transceivers and passive splitters.
  • Own the design and technical support of new products as well as sustaining and enhancements for existing products.
  • Select, qualify, and manage critical components to meet performance, cost, and reliability targets.
  • Support and coordinate prototype builds and validation at contract manufacturers and/or JDM/ODM partners, including troubleshooting build and test issues.
  • Support and coordinate environmental and compliance testing, manage certifications and associated documentation, and assist customers with compliance-related questions.
  • Provide technical support for critical customer escalations, working cross-functionally to diagnose and resolve hardware issues.
What you’ve done:
  • Earned a BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field, or have equivalent practical experience.
  • Accumulated 10+ years of design experience in networking, embedded, or optical products.
  • Designed high-speed boards and applied solid understanding of signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI).
  • Designed low-noise, high-efficiency on-board power regulation circuits.
  • Developed Verilog RTL for CPLDs or similar devices and integrated this logic into board-level designs.
  • Demonstrated strong board-level debug and validation skills across multiple product generations.
  • Used lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related measurement tools for hardware validation and troubleshooting.
  • Authored product specifications, test plans, and test procedures to support design, verification, and manufacturing.
  • Worked effectively with cross-functional teams including platform software, application software, manufacturing, and operations.
Who you are:
  • Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented, able to recognize problems, gather relevant data, and draw clear, defensible conclusions.
  • A collaborative team member who communicates clearly with cross-functional stakeholders and external partners (JDM/ODM/OEM and contract manufacturers).
  • Comfortable owning complex hardware deliverables end-to-end, from concept and design through validation, compliance, and sustaining support.
  • Adaptable and proactive, thriving in a dynamic global team and taking initiative to resolve issues and improve designs and processes.
