Job description

Mining Construction Manager

WSP is seeking a Mining Construction Manager to oversee onsite construction activities for a large mining EPCM project in our growing Earth & Environment team. This full-time onsite position can be based anywhere in the United States with preference in Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Alaska, or near major mining projects. Travel per diem is available for those not local to the projects.

The full-time Construction Manager will deliver safe, efficient, and coordinated civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and earthworks scopes for projects that may involve open pit and/or underground environments. This role is responsible for ensuring field execution is aligned with our engineering, procurement, and project controls staff while meeting all regulatory and stakeholder requirements to deliver successful outcomes for the client.

Your Impact

  • Lead construction oversight for mine infrastructure, processing facilities, and related support facilities, ensuring alignment with engineering design, specifications, and regulatory standards.
  • Manage construction contractors, subcontractors, and field teams, including performance oversight related to safety, cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Serve as the primary interface between owner, contractor, and engineering teams to ensure efficient communication and risk mitigation.
  • Coordinate closely with design engineers, geotechnical teams, and project stakeholders to support constructability, sequencing, and field modifications.
  • Drive a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental requirements on site.
  • Oversee QA/QC, inspection, and material testing programs to confirm construction meets technical and safety requirements.
  • Support procurement and field implementation of key materials and systems.
  • Develop and manage construction execution plans, schedules, risk registers, and cost tracking for large-scale earthworks projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience in large-scale heavy civil construction, process facilities, and/or mining infrastructure, such as haul roads, underground access (declines, shafts, drifts), waste rock facilities, tailings systems, and associated support facilities.
  • Demonstrated hands-on construction management experience in active mining settings, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked across both open pit and underground mine development projects.
  • Knowledge of the development and construction of mineral processing facilities (e.g., crushing, milling, recovery circuits), with prior processing plant construction experience preferred.
  • Understanding of heap leach pad construction, stacking systems, solution management infrastructure, and related environmental controls.
  • Commitment to safety. MSHA and OSHA 30-hour training preferred.
  • Experience with construction plans and specifications and relating that to project scope, schedule, and cost.
  • Strong verbal/written communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to liaise between designers, owners, contractors, and end-users.
  • Certifications preferred (PE, PMP, CCM, etc.).
  • Able to walk distances on uneven sites, climb small ladders, and work in an active construction environment both above and underground.
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.

WSP Benefits

These benefits include coverage related to medical, dental, vision, disability, and life; retirement savings; paid sick leave; paid vacation (or other personal time); paid parental leave; and paid time off for purposes of bereavement, voting, and/or attendance at naturalization proceedings.
