Tax Associate (Transactional & Controversy) Location: Portland, OR A respected regional law firm is seeking a 3–5 year Associate to join its Tax practice in the Pacific Northwest. This role offers the opportunity to work on a broad range of federal tax matters, including both transactional work and tax controversy, within a collaborative and industry-focused corporate platform. The team advises clients across sectors including energy, technology, healthcare, life sciences and manufacturing, with particular strength in renewable energy transactions. Key Responsibilities Advise clients on federal tax aspects of complex business transactions Support mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financings and fund formations Assist with tax controversy matters, including state and local tax disputes Conduct legal research and draft memoranda and advisory materials Collaborate with corporate teams on transaction structuring and execution Manage multiple matters and support client strategy across tax issues Who You Are 3–5 years of federal tax experience Experience in both transactional tax and tax controversy matters Familiarity with renewable energy financing transactions preferred Experience with M&A, financing and corporate transactions Strong academic credentials Excellent writing, analytical and communication skills Highly motivated with strong organisational and project management abilities J.D. from an accredited law school Compensation Salary Range: $192,000 – $215,000 (DOE) Benefits: Discretionary bonus, unlimited PTO, flexible working arrangements, parental leave, sabbatical programme, comprehensive healthcare coverage, retirement benefits and additional wellness programmes Interested?
