Full Time Lecturer - Construction Management "Professor of Practice" Job no: 557605 Work type: Instructional Faculty - Temporary/Lecturer Location: Sacramento Categories: Unit 3 - CFA - California Faculty Association, Temporary, Full Time, Faculty - Engineering DEPARTMENT: Construction Management POSITION TITLE: Professor of Practice - Full-time Lecturer The Department of Construction Management (CM) at Sacramento State is designed for students who enter professional practice immediately upon graduation. The CM program curriculum and teaching methods are therefore practical in nature, providing hands‑on experience for students through labs and class projects. Graduates of the CM program enjoy an excellent reputation among regional employers and many move quickly into leadership roles on large projects. The CM program enrolls over 500 undergraduate students, offering a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management with a minor degree in Business Administration. The Professor of Practice position is a non‑tenure‑track faculty appointment designed to bring the expertise of distinguished construction management professionals into the academic environment to enhance student learning and strengthen connections with industry partners. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate students in the candidate’s areas of expertise, course and curriculum development, student mentorship, and program‑related activities. Development of scholarly work, while encouraged, is not required. This is a full‑time position for a fixed term of one academic year, renewable contingent upon funding, programmatic need, and performance. DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach a variety of undergraduate construction management courses. Participate in curriculum and coursework development. Advise students, assist with orientations. Contribute to Department, College and University level committee work. Engage in student‑related activities, such as coaching teams for student competitions, serving as student club faculty advisor, or supporting the summer bootcamp. Identify construction field trip locations, obtain permission to visit these sites from responsible party (Prime Contractor, Owner etc.), and lead student field trips to these construction sites. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, civil or mechanical engineering or a similar profession. Seven‑years (minimum) domestic construction experience in commercial building, engineering, or specialty subcontracting segments of the industry. Professional experience in which the applicant has held position(s) with responsibility for and authority to plan, schedule, monitor, and control construction projects or significant portions of large projects. Professional experience and demonstrated competency in several of the following areas, such as: Estimating Project management Planning and scheduling Construction operations and productivity management Construction safety Computer applications in construction Labor relations or construction law Specialty contracting (e.g., MEPF) Ability and commitment to effectively teach undergraduate courses in a variety of construction management classes to a diverse student population. Commitment to enhance interaction with the construction industry in support of the CM Program. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Local/Regional construction industry experience. Contemporary estimating and project management experiences. Master’s degree in construction, civil engineering, or similar discipline. Candidates with other professional degrees (MBA, juris doctorate, etc.) in addition to a bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, civil or mechanical engineering or a similar profession may also be considered. APPOINTMENT: This is a full‑time instructional position within the Lecturer classification, beginning Fall 2026; salary and range determination commensurate with qualifications and experience.
