Overview Operations Manager - IES Residential, Inc. Plumbing Division. IES Residential, Inc. is a national residential mechanical contractor providing electrical, plumbing, and HVAC installation services to homebuilders across multiple states. The Charlotte operation is adding plumbing to an established electrical division, offering a ground-floor opportunity to launch and grow a residential plumbing operation with the support of a national organization. The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced residential New Construction (RNC) plumbing professional to support the launch and growth of the Charlotte plumbing division. This role works directly with the Division Manager and is supported by central teams, including procurement, design, estimating, and administration. You will serve as the trade subject matter expert in the Charlotte market, capable of building and leading a team, establishing operational standards, and driving quality and performance as the division grows. Responsibilities Division Startup Support: assist the Division Manager with adding plumbing to the Charlotte operation, including warehouse organization, dispatch logistics, and development of operational workflows. Procurement & Supply Chain: coordinate with the national procurement team to establish supplier relationships, material pricing, and kitting and delivery models for the Charlotte market. Permitting & Compliance: research North Carolina plumbing permitting requirements by municipality and collaborate with the central administrative team to establish compliant permitting workflows before neighborhood starts. Systems & Processes: help build scalable systems and processes to support long-term division growth. Field Operations: hire, onboard, train, and supervise plumbing crews for residential new construction installations; lead crews through underground, rough-in, and trim phases; establish production expectations, quality standards, and installation best practices from the first project onward. Scheduling & Coordination: schedule field crews to meet builder production requirements; manage daily dispatch and jobsite coordination. Quality & Warranty: conduct first-install quality reviews on new floor plans and validate Bills of Materials (BOMs) against design documents; manage warranty service and callbacks, identifying recurring issues by floor plan, product line, or installation process. Licensing & Compliance: ensure field personnel maintain required North Carolina installer and supervisor licenses. Performance & Cost Management Monitor labor and material performance metrics with the Division Manager; identify variances and implement corrective actions at crew and supplier levels. Audit BOMs to reduce waste, improve accuracy, identify substitutions, and optimize material usage. Utilize company job management and field operations platforms for scheduling, tracking, and documentation. Provide regular operational reporting to division and national leadership teams. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Residential New Construction (RNC) plumbing experience; experience supporting production homebuilders in a high-volume residential environment; proven leadership in managing plumbing crews (hiring, scheduling, training, quality control). Technical knowledge: PEX water distribution systems; PVC drain, waste, and vent systems; underground plumbing installation; rough-in and fixture trim operations. Startup/High-Growth: ability to thrive in a startup or high-growth environment. Licensing: familiarity with North Carolina plumbing licensing requirements or willingness to learn and implement them. Education: we value hands-on RNC plumbing experience above formal education; high school diploma or equivalent required; minimum 5 years of RNC plumbing experience; minimum 2 years in a supervisory or lead role; valid NC driver’s license with clean record. Preferred Qualifications: experience in structured production plumbing operations; experience with job management or field operations software; NC Plumbing Contractor or Supervisor License or the ability to obtain one. Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of 5 years of Residential New Construction plumbing experience. Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory/lead role. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business, or related field preferred but not required. Working Environment & Physical Requirements Position based in the Charlotte, NC metropolitan area with regular travel to jobsites, warehouses, supplier locations, and company facilities. Combination of office, warehouse, and active residential construction jobsite environments. Ability to navigate construction sites, including uneven terrain, mud, stairs, ladders, crawlspaces, attics, and partially completed structures. Physical capacity to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and move throughout jobsites for inspections and crew oversight; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle; ability to use computers and mobile devices for scheduling, reporting, and documentation.
