Three Trails Behavioral Hospital in the area of Independence, MO is actively hiring an . We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Financial Counselor to join our team. This role is essential in helping patients and families understand financial responsibilities, verify insurance coverage, and navigate payment options while supporting access to critical behavioral health services.
We are looking for individuals who want to make a difference in the community!The name Three Trails was selected to honor the historical significance of the city of Independence as the starting point for the Santa Fe, Oregon and California Trails. The logo icon is a compass, which is symbolic of wayfinding, and metaphorically the personal journey to recovery.The Groundbreaking for the new hospital was held in January 5. Beam topping was held in July 5. The facility is expected to open in the second half of 6.The Financial Counselor will:
- Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits
- Communicate financial responsibility clearly to patients and families
- Assist with securing pre-authorizations and insurance eligibility
- Collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay deposits in accordance with hospital policies
- Offer financial counseling, including payment plans and financial assistance options
- Ensure accurate documentation in patient accounts and billing systems
Three Trails Behavioral Hospital will:
- Serve children and adolescents, adults and seniors with innovative and evidence-based inpatient behavioral healthcare focused on individual needs and comfort.
- Create more than new, full-time jobs including nurses, clinicians, therapists, technicians and administrative staff, when the facility is fully operational.
- Be located at the intersection of I- and Little Blue Parkway, adjacent to the Children’s Mercy Hospital Outpatient Clinics.
- Feature licensed beds ready to meet the mental health needs of the surrounding community.
- Span more than , square feet, and will include an activity yard and gym.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in healthcare financial counseling, admissions, or patient access
- Knowledge of insurance plans (commercial, Medicaid, Medicare, managed care)
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to handle sensitive financial discussions with empathy and professionalism
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic computer applications
- Experience in behavioral health or hospital setting preferred
