Job description

POSITION: Reporting to the Executive Director for Housing and Residential Life, the Senior Director for Housing Facilities Management provides leadership, operational management, and planning for an expanding portfolio of residential complexes consisting of multiple buildings. The Senior Director is responsible for the maintenance and facility operations of all residential housing units through managing relationships with various third‑party facility management contractors, building safety/security, emergency planning, and capital planning to address deferred maintenance and ongoing facility‑related improvements. This position will interact on a consistent basis with Housing management and staff, contractors, vendors, students, and parents. This position typically will advise and counsel Housing staff personnel. This position will supervise Assigned Staff. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Oversight of day‑to‑day operations of Facilities operations, which provides leadership and responsibility for maintenance/renovation, engineering, housekeeping, utilities, transportation, materials/supplies warehousing, and contractor engagement and management. Managing short‑ and long‑term strategic planning and program development, working with capital projects and management systems, and utilizing resources effectively. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Development of training and professional development plans for employees to enhance retention, personal growth, and performance. Working closely with the executive director to develop strategic goals to achieve assigned financial, customer service, and project goals. Conducting a thorough audit of departmental data and reviewing processes related to compliance and regulations. Understand the value of collaborations and partnerships. Understanding the complexity and breadth of services provided by the department. Working to improve staff and students' morale and ensuring they feel supported. Incorporating the perspectives of multiple diverse communities, including communities of color, in consideration of the impacts and outcomes of a decision‑making process. Collaborating with key colleagues across the department and the campus to support and develop a long‑range plan to fully serve and accommodate all residents through a lens that advances and promotes GT values, including foster belonging and nurturing well‑being. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in Engineering, Facilities Management, or similar field. Eight to ten years of job‑related experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities to perform this position includes but is not limited to: This position requires overnight travel for project delivery; flexibility in on‑site daily service delivery hours (due to client shift schedules and project requirements). Proficient use of office and specialized computer applications. Advanced knowledge related to facilities management in a large residential setting; operation and maintenance of building systems, building maintenance and upkeep, personnel management, contractor relations, budgeting and cost management, customer service, conflict resolution, resource allocation and problem solving. Preferred qualifications include a strong history of leading a diverse housing facility team with a proven track record of staff recruitment and development; background in student housing including familiarity with industry standards (Association of Physical Plant Administrators) and best practices for student housing; background in strategic planning, as they will be responsible for implementing an aggressive housing master plan that will require coordination and collaboration with campus partners; and experience with the development and implementation of comprehensive preventative maintenance plans; experience writing a variety of correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, agreements, training documents, and performance evaluations; oral and written communication skills and professional presence can represent housing and residence life, and the Institute internally and externally; operational knowledge of facility operations, safety & security procedures, emergency preparedness, sustainable operations, and United States Green Building Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system.
