Job description

Washington, District of Columbia, United States. Role Overview Jacobs is seeking an enthusiastic, highly organized, team‑oriented Environmental Planner to support our Environmental Planning sector working in one of our Jacobs offices along the east coast on federal environmental projects. You will assist in preparing complex EISs, EAs, and other environmental compliance documents during the project planning stages, working alongside scientists, planners, engineers, and community specialists. Responsibilities Project and task coordinator for NEPA documents. Organize and collaborate with staff on research to support document preparation. Project scoping: develop purpose, need, alternatives, and prepare NEPA‑compliant documents. Prepare NEPA documents, including Categorical Exclusions (CEs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs). Handle special studies such as Section4(f), Section7 of the Endangered Species Act (ESA), Section106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), permitting, or other regulations. Ensure timely project deliverables and quality management. Assist with public outreach efforts. Manage multiple, simultaneous projects of varying topics and complexity. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in planning, environmental law, biology, environmental science, or a related field. Understanding of and experience with NEPA environmental compliance processes for transportation infrastructure projects. 5+ years of experience in transportation‑related work. Exceptional writing and verbal skills; ability to work collaboratively internally and externally. Experience interacting with clients to communicate findings and develop environmental process strategies; experience representing clients on project teams and in agency‑to‑agency coordination. Ability to manage scope, schedule, and budget for projects effectively. Ability to produce high‑quality work products that meet and exceed client expectations. Experience participating in proposal preparation and interviews. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in a related field preferred. Established client relationships on the east coast. Experience with Section404 permitting processes and Section106. Experience with alternative delivery transportation projects. Strong proposal and technical writing skills. Willingness to travel locally and nationally to support project work. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record. Experience with ArcGIS (plus).
