Position Title Professor of Biomedical Sciences Position Control Number F03333 Type of Position Faculty Position Status Full-time Campus Western University Campus-Pomona, CA Position Location California Department 1404-Basic Medical Sciences Job Summary This is a College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) Faculty‑level position within Western University of Health Sciences and is offered in conjunction with an administrative appointment. Together, the faculty role of Professor of Biomedical Sciences (PCN F03333) and the administrative role (PCN A04051) comprise a full‑time position (1.0 FTE). The salary range listed in this posting represents the total compensation for the combined Administrative and Faculty responsibilities. Please refer to the corresponding job posting under our Administrative jobs section for details on the additional assignment. Responsibilities Establish and maintain an active research program in the area of expertise; secure extramural funding; train and mentor students and postdocs. Teach in one of the following disciplines: Biochemistry/Genetics, Physiology, Microbiology/Immunology, or Pharmacology; develop subject matter and methods of instruction; promote a general atmosphere of respect for knowledge, thought, and inquiry; contribute to the planning, development, and evaluation of courses and academic programs. Participate in scheduled meetings of the General Faculty; serve on committees as elected or appointed; engage in curricular activities including workshops, case wrap‑ups, and interprofessional education. Submit 10‑15 questions per year to NBOME and attend faculty development workshops. Provide service as directed by the Dean, including interviewing DO students and attending seminars. Actively engage with, support, and advise assigned students throughout their medical school career; conduct regular meetings, participate in orientation week, and perform advising activities. Publish 1‑2 peer‑reviewed manuscripts per year and attend national or international meetings. Required Qualifications Education: PhD, MD, DO, or closely related credentials from an accredited institution of higher learning. Experience: 5 years post‑doctoral experience teaching in one of the major disciplines within the Biomedical Sciences department at an accredited institution of higher learning. Preferred Qualifications PhD preferred. Preference will be given to individuals possessing experience in medical school teaching and research within one of the major disciplines within the Biomedical Sciences department (Biochemistry/Genetics, Physiology, Microbiology/Immunology, or Pharmacology). Key Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Broad, current familiarity with medical education and research community issues, trends, terminology, regulatory policies, and changing environment. Extensive familiarity with processes and trends in higher education accreditation and continuous quality improvement strategies in research planning. Teaching expertise in medical education related to at least one of the major disciplines within the Biomedical Sciences department. Experience collaborating with faculty and staff in curriculum development and biomedical research. Ability to communicate effectively to groups or individually. Ability to interact effectively with people of all backgrounds. Ability to handle detail‑oriented assignments and maintain confidentiality. Ability to manage a multitude of responsibilities in the College environment. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism. Work Schedule 40 hours per week, usual business hours Mon–Fri, 8 AM – 5 PM. Some evenings and weekends may be required. Expected Pay Scale Minimum $169,000.00 Annually Maximum $202,471.00 Annually Physical Demands Essential functions require lifting and moving up to 20 pounds occasionally; perform tasks that involve standing, walking, reaching, occasionally climbing, stooping; use hands to operate a PC, talk, hear, and smell; maintain close, distance, peripheral, depth‑perception vision. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The Expected Pay Scale is defined as the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
