Job description

Overview:

We are dedicated to working in partnership with the community to fight crime reduce fear and improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods.

Our Mission: Community Policing

For over 20 years the Boston Police Department (BPD) has been a leader in Community Policing initiatives. Through the core principles of partnership prevention and problem-solving BPD has contributed to both a lower crime rate and a reduction in arrests in the city.

Community policing begins with positive interactions on the streets and in classrooms. It involves proactive prevention diversion programs for at-risk youth and families and provides pathways away from violence for those ready to make a change. BPD is working every day with the community to strengthen relationships with a focus on building trust with youth. Prioritizing these relationships is key to fostering trust and safety in our neighborhoods.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Community Engagement: Actively engage with community members particularly youth to build positive relationships and trust.
- Crime Prevention: Assist in implementing proactive measures aimed at reducing crime and improving neighborhood safety.
- Youth Outreach: Support diversion programs for at-risk youth providing resources and guidance to steer them away from violence. - Educational Outreach: Participate in community education efforts including school-based programs to foster awareness around crime prevention safety and violence prevention.
- Collaboration with BPD Teams: Work closely with other BPD officers and community leaders to coordinate initiatives that support the goals of community policing.
