Job description

Department Overview

The purpose of this job/position is to function as a member of the Rehabilitation Services patient care team by providing speech/language pathology services to the pediatric developmental and rehabilitation patient/client population. This position will have competency and experience with assessment and intervention activities for special populations including but not limited to autism pediatric dysphagia extreme prematurity congenital brain anomalies etc. Therapists evaluate each patient referred establish treatment goals/objectives develop treatment plans and implement the plan. Therapists are expected to supervise therapy interns assist with other educational research activities conducted by the department or the hospital and meet hospital standards regarding documentation and productivity. This position includes weekend and holiday rotations

This position requires availability 4 shifts per 2 week pay period with 2 of those shifts on weekends as determined according to the Employers needs.; Participation in holiday rotation

Function/Duties of Position

Provides Skilled Rehabilitation Treatment

  • Prioritize care needs given medical necessity discharge plan medicalstability and appropriateness to participate in rehabilitation
  • Performs and documents skilled patient care activities including directtreatment and caregiver/patient/family education
  • Monitors and adjusts treatment plan specific to patient progress
  • Facilitates routine patient activity plans with nursing and other caregivers
  • Updates recommendations to team regarding continuing rehabilitation needsand plan as patients condition and situation warrant
  • Directs supports and provides supervision as required for aides andvolunteers
  • Develops and enhances patient care program and patient outcomes in specialty area
  • Documents treatment and other patient contacts in patients medical recordin compliance with DNV OHSU OARs and third-party payer criteria

Provides a Safe Therapeutic Environment

  • Ensures the safety and welfare of patients and fellow employees
  • Utilizes proper posture sound body mechanics and principles for safepatient handling
  • Considers the needs of patients employees medical staff volunteersvendors and members of the community in an informative courteous and compassionate manner.
  • Maintains general good physical and mental health and self-care in order to not jeopardize the health and safety of self and others in the hospital / clinical setting.

Service

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service and communication skills in allinteractions with patients and family including both telephone and face-to-face situations
  • Uses I CARE for introduction and closing
  • Demonstrates active listening skills and supportive professional/behavior atall times to patients families and staff
  • Addresses complaints and problems promptly and courteously involvingmanagement when indicated
  • Communicates with patients/families other health care team members in a time and cost efficient courteous manner.

Other Duties as Assigned

Required Qualifications

  • A masters degree in Speech/Language Pathology and possess a valid Oregon State license in Speech/Language Pathology; OR specifically when the position isa Clinical Fellowship Year position (CFY)meet the educational requirementshave an OR state conditional license and be in the process of accumulating the supervised experience required for licensure (completion of Clinical Fellowship Year).
  • An Oregon State License in Speech/Language Pathology must be obtained within one year of appointment or employment will be terminated.
  • Positions within person patient care: BLS certificate within 30 days of hire or prior to independent practice whichever comes first.

Job Related Knowledge Skills and Abilities (Competencies):

  • Competency and experience with assessment and interventions for medically complex patient populations such as autism pediatric dysphagia extreme prematurity congenital brain anomalies other specialty pediatric developmental and rehabilitation patient populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in one of the following settings:
    • Pediatric Acute Care
    • NICU
    • Pediatric Outpatient

Additional Details

Routine inpatient hospital environment.

Ability to lift 40 lbs. to repeatedly carry equipment weighing more than 5 lbs. and to walk extensively on hard and soft surfaces. Frequent bending and reaching to navigate medical equipment or perform treatment is required. Motor ability to successfully assist patients in transfers and gait. Must have knowledge of inpatient medical environments and equipment such as oxygen/ventilation/respiratory apparatuses. Requires ability to respond quickly and appropriately to urgent medical situations that may arise with high-risk or medically complex patient populations
