Lateral Police Officer Sunriver, OR, US Supervision This classification works under the direction of the Patrol Sergeant. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Carries out the mission of the agency and models its core values. Maintains availability by radio or phone for consultation during major incidents; enforces Federal, State, County, and District laws and ordinances. Performs patrol duties on rotating shifts, including security checks, traffic enforcement, investigations, and first aid at accidents. Responds to emergencies and investigates incidents such as traffic collisions, thefts, disturbances, domestic disputes, and drug offenses; takes appropriate enforcement action. Conducts investigations, interviews victims, witnesses, and suspects; collects, processes, and preserves evidence. Prepares thorough, accurate, and timely reports to support investigations, prosecutions, and internal documentation. Makes arrests, issues citations, and transports offenders in custody. Provides first aid and emergency assistance as required. Coordinates with other officers and outside agencies; exchanges information and seeks guidance from prosecutors and courts as needed. Informs and educates the public regarding laws, ordinances, and community safety. Serves warrants, civil papers, and seizes property as directed. Testifies credibly and accurately in court and other legal proceedings. Addresses traffic safety concerns through enforcement and public education. Participates in department meetings, in-service training, and professional development. Responds to hazardous or high-stress situations to protect life and property and restore order. Assists other law enforcement agencies and renders aid to the public as needed. Responds during emergencies or declared disasters to support essential public services and community safety. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications Working knowledge of the criminal justice system, applicable laws, and local ordinances. Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare clear, accurate, and detailed reports. Effective interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills; able to conduct interviews and de-escalate confrontations professionally. Sound judgment and decision-making under both routine and high-stress conditions. Proficient in the operation of firearms, police vehicles, radios, cameras, and related law-enforcement equipment. Skilled in gathering, analyzing, and documenting information for both criminal and traffic investigations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the community. Physical ability to perform essential job functions, including making arrests, operating equipment, and managing physically demanding or hazardous situations. Education, Experience, Certifications, and Licenses Must have graduated from a high school or equivalent. It is preferred the applicant have taken college level courses in Criminal Justice or related field. Applicants must demonstrate competency in firearms, self-defense, physical fitness and patrol vehicle operations. Must have a valid Oregon Driver’s License, or have ability to obtain within 30 days from date of hire. Must have completed FTEP/PTO process with a Law Enforcement Agency and have at least one year of solo police officer experience. Must be currently certified or eligible to be certified with the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) and in good standing. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office environment and in the field in a variety of high-risk emergency and non-emergency situations, which may involve exposure to potential danger. Work duties may require working at any time of the day or night. This position requires the Officer to perform the duties of police officer and be able to satisfactorily pass the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT). Must be willing to work 8, 10, or 12-hour shift assignments. Must be willing to work day, swing, graveyard shift assignments including weekend and holiday work. Job may require working a 7 or 9 day work cycle. Requirements Must be at least 21 years of age. Must pass a Criminal History and valid Driver’s License check prior to an interview. Must pass Background Investigation prior to employment. Must pass a Pre-Employment Medical and Psychological Evaluation. SRPD requires all applicants to complete the criminal history fields on their application. Applicants with incomplete criminal history fields will not be considered for a position.
