Job Description Under general supervision by the Medical Director and Histology Supervisor, the Histotechnologist performs specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, routine, special and immunohistochemistry stains. Duties include completion of quality control records, maintenance of supplies and reagents, and performance of general preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment. Expected to accept assignments across departments, El Camino Hospital campuses (Mountain View and Los Gatos), or locations within a 15‑mile radius as needed. Responsibilities Process, embed, and section specimens for routine, special, and immunohistochemistry stains. Maintain quality control records and track supplies and reagents. Perform preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment. Operate in a high-volume laboratory producing 100 blocks per shift. Multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision. Qualifications Associate’s degree in a life science field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. ASCP histopathology certification (HT or HTL) preferred. Minimum two years of experience as a histotechnologist in a high-volume hospital histology laboratory within the last five years. Ability to work in a high-volume laboratory with 100 blocks per shift. Ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision. Salary $50.38 – $66.39 USD per hour. Physical Requirements Light work – walking or standing for up to 49% of shift; duties require standard movement and may occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
