Job description

Position Summary Teach with Purpose: At KIPP Public Schools Northern California, our Education Specialists ensure that every student’s unique strengths are recognized, supported, and celebrated. You will design and/or co‑design engaging, differentiated lessons, use data to guide instruction, and create inclusive classrooms where all students can learn and thrive. You’ll also integrate Social Emotional Learning and Restorative Practices to build a joyful, safe, and affirming community. Collaborate and Grow: You’ll work closely with your school’s Leadership Team—including your Instructional Coach—and partner with general education teachers and service providers to ensure all students receive the support they need. Through weekly meetings, coaching, and professional learning, you’ll receive the support and feedback to grow as both an educator and advocate. Preferred Qualifications Experience: Experience teaching or supporting students with disabilities and/or students from backgrounds similar to our KIPP Northern California community (preferred) Education: Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (required). Meet one of the following eligibility requirements (required): Hold a valid teaching credential in the subject of your desired role, or be eligible for a General Education Limited Assignment Permit, Provisional Internship Permit, or Short Term Staff Permit (CPR certification by American Heart Association or American Red Cross is a prerequisite for this permit). Skills and Mindsets Deep commitment to KIPP’s mission and vision Dedication to anti‑racist, culturally responsive teaching Belief that all students can achieve at the highest levels Strong content knowledge and instructional skills Ability to build meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, etc.) and openness to learning new educational technologies (e.g., Zoom, Nearpod) Essential Functions and Responsibilities Lead and manage the development, implementation, and monitoring of students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with federal and state laws Collaborate with families, general education teachers, and related service providers to develop measurable goals and support plans in academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional areas Deliver specialized academic instruction and intervention through models such as co‑teaching, push‑in, pull‑out, small‑group, and one‑to‑one support Collect and analyze data regularly to track student progress toward IEP goals, inform instruction, and communicate growth to families Develop and adapt daily and long‑term lesson plans aligned with both IEP goals and KIPP’s academic vision Partner with general education teachers to modify materials and differentiate instruction to meet students’ diverse learning needs Support the training and development of paraeducators and other staff to ensure consistent, high‑quality instructional support Foster a positive, inclusive, and rigorous learning environment that incorporates Restorative Practices, Social Emotional Learning, and culturally responsive approaches Communicate proactively and effectively with students, families, and colleagues to ensure alignment and partnership in supporting student success Maintain accurate, organized student records, including IEP documents, progress reports, and evaluations Engage fully in ongoing professional development and Communities of Practice to continually refine instructional and equity‑centered practices Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands Physical: Ability to navigate school and classroom settings, access and utilize technology, and occasionally lift/carry equipment 1‑20 lbs. Physical agility to move in various positions to execute duties effectively, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping, and reaching overhead. Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people. Environmental: School and classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Adhere to KIPP’s health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies’ recommendations. Classification This is a full‑time, exempt position on a school year calendar cycle, located at our school sites. Compensation KIPP Northern California is dedicated to you and your family’s well‑being! We offer a competitive salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and transportation benefits. Our salaries are benchmarked annually against local district and charter schools to ensure competitiveness.
