Job description

Role Description

This is a remote position. The Tribal NEPA Project Manager will support Onterris work with Tribal Nations to foster meaningful collaboration with Tribal communities, champion internal cultural proficiency, and establish respectful partnerships. We are seeking candidates experienced with NEPA and Fee-to-Trust projects who will be responsible for supporting the development and management of environmental projects focusing on sustainability and conservation.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Working with a project team to coordinate project tasks.
  • Assisting with maintaining project workflow.
  • Utilizing database software to administer information by updating project status.
  • Managing electronic project documents.
  • Exhibiting good communication skills and meeting client expectations.
  • Managing projects/processes and working independently with limited supervision.
  • Coaching and reviewing the work of team members.

The annual salary for this role ranges from $95,000 to $120,000, in addition to an annual bonus commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.

To thrive in this role, you’ll be comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities:

  • Providing project management and environmental planning knowledge for tribal fee-to-trust projects.
  • Supporting environmental impact analysis, coordination of biological and cultural assessment, NEPA and/or CEQA research and document production.
  • Coordinating for other environmental projects.
  • Implementing strategies for engaging with Tribal Nation partners/clients and bolstering our reputation as a trusted ally.
  • Leading and assisting with writing project proposals.
  • Implementing transparent communications with Tribal governments and Indigenous Communities on various projects.
  • Managing Tribal environmental projects.
  • Assisting in data gathering and writing/reviewing sections for CEQA/NEPA documents.
  • Preparing permit applications and coordinating with consultants and project team members.
  • Interfacing with clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Managing and maintaining budget tracking and schedule tracking.
  • Maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Exercising safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations.
  • Participating in the company’s continuous improvement programs.
  • Staying current on industry trends through training, publications, and workshops.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • College/University degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, Law or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience as a consultant with a specific emphasis on federal and Tribal regulatory experience.
  • Experience with project management and technical responsibility, including leadership of others and management level accountability.
  • NEPA experience managing EAs and/or EISs and working with Tribal Nations for Fee-to-Trust applications and projects.
  • Strong client facing skills (relationship building, communication, problem solving).
  • Direct experience and knowledge of environmental regulations, assisting in research for NEPA and CEQA planning documents.
  • Direct experience and knowledge of consultation under NHPA 106 and ESA Section 7.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Tribal Nations and addressing complex issues across multiple agencies, business lines, client types and geographies.
  • Proven ability to develop positive relationships with Tribal Nations, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and other entities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across offices and regions.
  • Strong research, analysis, and reporting abilities.
  • Focus on detail-orientation skills and capable of managing large data sets.
  • Self-starting, team-oriented professionals with excellent written and communication skills.
  • Familiar with review and analysis of scientific data, maps, and drawings.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided software (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.).
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to present to supervisors.

Requirements

  • While performing the job's responsibilities, the employee may be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
  • There may be occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from the floor of supplies and materials weighing no more than 30 pounds.
  • The work may involve some bending, standing, or walking.
  • Out-of-office site visits could potentially have more strenuous physical demands.
  • The work environment will vary greatly depending on the nature of assigned tasks.
  • Possible work environments could include normal office working conditions in a well-lit, climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
  • The position may involve local travel as needed.
