ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Safely perform the daily sample operations of the lab
· Prepare/organize samples for daily run.
· Accurately login samples via lab software.
· Operate sample shaker.
· Manually prepare samples for auto-dilution
· Operate various technical instruments including instruments for autodilution, wear metal analysis, viscosity, infrared analysis, and particle count analysis.
· Operate technical instrument for fuel dilution and coolant contamination.
· Conduct physical tests for fuel, water and antifreeze.
· Plan and conduct each operation in accordance with the chemical hygiene procedures.
· Perform lab clean up duties daily, monthly and as requested
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
· Help answer telephone calls.
· Assist other lab technicians with overall lab responsibilities
· File and maintain records.
· Create memos, letters, and spreadsheets as needed.
· Assist with sample report distribution
· Process daily orders for customers and perform daily lab cleanup as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY
· High school graduate or equivalent.
· Organizational & time management skills to assure accurate and efficient sample flow
· Ability to learn lab instrumentation and perform lab processes utilizing lab software
· Must have ability to work safely in a team environment.
· Must have desire to learn the purpose of basic fluid/wear analysis.
· Must have desire to learn lab instruments and perform tests needed for fluid/wear analysis.
· Must have experience working with personal computers and Microsoft Office software.
· Above average data entry and keyboard skills.
· Must have ability to adapt to digital technology
PREFERRED
· Technical training/education in oil/coolant/fuel wear analysis is preferred.
· Basic knowledge of Caterpillar equipment is preferred.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
· Material and equipment directly used: Fluid analysis instrumentation and other labware. Personal computer, telephone, voicemail, email. Caterpillar computer systems, programs and equipment. Company computer systems, programs and equipment. Operating manuals for lab instrumentation, etc. Basic knowledge of chemicals that are used.
· Requires standing and/or sitting for 5 – 7 hours a day.
· Requires ability to work in a team environment
· Work at a lab instrument and/or computer keyboard throughout the day.
· Ability to walk up and down stairs.
· Use hands for simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation.
· Exposure to oil, kerosene and some chemicals.
· Ability to lift and carry 30-pound packages.
