The Salvation Army's Springfield Corps is hiring a Bridging The Gap Counselor and offers the following benefit package to part‑time employees. Location: 170 Pearl Street, Springfield, MA Hours per week: 15 hours (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 1 pm to 6 pm) Exemption status: Non‑exempt Pay range: $18.00 – $25.00 per hour (starting pay varies depending on experience and qualifications) Duties & Responsibilities Help plan and assist Bridging the Gap curriculum. Review lesson plans and offer input. Attend weekly staff meetings. Observe at least one group per week. Discuss each participant’s progress with the BTG Coordinator and interns. Maintain a document of all participants’ addresses. Advocate for participants where necessary. Talk to participants as required/needed. Handle and teach teens at Bridging the Gap with varying personal backgrounds. Attend training sessions as required. Coordinate with area colleges and graduate programs to recruit interns and volunteers. Represent The Salvation Army’s social mission in the Bridging the Gap program. Refer persons with spiritual needs to The Salvation Army Corps Officer. Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications Education Requirements: College student, preferably a college graduate. Work Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience working with young adults. Other Qualifications: Ability to work with disadvantaged youth is a definite plus. Must be knowledgeable about outside referral services. Must be at least 21 years of age.
