Epidemiologist II The County of San Diego's Health and Human Services Agency is currently accepting applications for an experienced and highly motivated Epidemiologist. This key position supports communicable disease mitigation through timely and comprehensive investigation, surveillance, and other critical disease control activities. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining datasets for analysis, interpreting data, and developing communicable disease reports and dashboards to inform disease control responses. Future Salary Increases June 2026 – 4.03% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board + 0.53% Market Adjustment) June 2027 – 3.53% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 0.53% Market Adjustment) Ideal Candidate Profile Graduate level degree (master's or doctorate) in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Statistics, or Mathematics. Three (3) or more years working in public health or medical surveillance, database management and analysis, and experience with communicable disease surveillance. Intermediate or expert level Statistical Analysis System (SAS) or R programming experience. Minimum Qualifications Two (2) years of experience as an Epidemiologist I in the County of San Diego; OR A master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign equivalency in public health with specialization in epidemiology, bio-statistics, or a related field, AND two (2) years of professional epidemiology experience. Note: A Ph.D. in epidemiology, public health, life science or a closely related field from an accredited U.S. college or university is highly desirable. Hiring Timeline Job offer and background process begins after the week of September 7, 2026. Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening. Pre‑employment medical screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results. Anticipated start date: Based upon successful completion of medical screening or a mutually agreed date.
