Bauer's Intelligent Transportation is a premier provider of luxury ground transportation throughout Northern California. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Fleet Maintenance & Operations to lead the maintenance, safety, and performance of our diverse fleet while developing a high‑performing maintenance organization that supports Bauer's continued growth. Position Summary The Director of Fleet Maintenance & Operations is responsible for the strategic leadership and day‑to‑day management of all fleet maintenance operations. This role oversees a diverse fleet that includes luxury motorcoaches, shuttle buses, cutaways, vans, and passenger vehicles powered by both diesel and gasoline engines. This executive leader will ensure maximum fleet reliability, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and cost‑effective asset management while fostering a culture centered on safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and employee development. The ideal candidate combines extensive technical expertise with proven leadership experience in passenger transportation fleet operations, maintenance management, budgeting, compliance, and technician development. Key Responsibilities Fleet Maintenance & Operations Lead all fleet maintenance operations to maximize vehicle reliability, safety, and operational readiness. Develop and oversee preventative maintenance programs that minimize downtime and extend vehicle life. Ensure timely completion of inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and scheduled maintenance. Establish maintenance standards and key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve fleet availability and shop productivity. Monitor fleet performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives based on operational data. Leadership & Team Development Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain a high‑performing maintenance team. Provide leadership to maintenance supervisors, technicians, and support staff. Foster a culture of accountability, safety, collaboration, and professional growth. Develop onboarding programs and ongoing technical training for maintenance personnel. Conduct performance evaluations and create career development opportunities. Develop and manage the annual fleet maintenance operating budget. Monitor labor costs, parts expenditures, fuel consumption, warranty recovery, and equipment utilization. Identify opportunities to reduce operating costs while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards. Support long‑term fleet replacement planning and capital expenditure forecasting. Oversee purchasing, inventory control, and vendor relationships. Maintain appropriate inventory levels to minimize vehicle downtime. Negotiate pricing and service agreements with suppliers and outside repair vendors. Ensure efficient procurement processes and inventory accuracy. Safety, Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, and CARB requirements. Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection documentation, and regulatory reporting. Lead internal audits and corrective action programs. Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the maintenance organization. Technology & Continuous Improvement Utilize fleet management software to monitor maintenance schedules, asset performance, inventory, and costs. Analyze maintenance trends and operational metrics to improve efficiency and reliability. Evaluate and implement new technologies that improve maintenance operations and fleet performance. Prepare reports and performance dashboards for executive leadership. Qualifications Required Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive fleet maintenance leadership experience within the passenger transportation industry. Demonstrated experience managing mixed fleets, including heavy‑duty diesel motorcoaches, shuttle buses, vans, cutaways, and gasoline‑powered vehicles. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, emissions systems, electrical diagnostics, and preventative maintenance programs. Proven leadership experience managing maintenance teams and developing technicians. Experience managing departmental budgets and controlling maintenance costs. Strong understanding of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, and California transportation regulations. Experience using computerized fleet maintenance management systems such as Fleetio, RTA, or similar software. Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required). Preferred Qualifications ASE Medium/Heavy Truck or School Bus Certifications. Technical degree or certification in Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology, Fleet Management, or a related field. Experience in a unionized maintenance environment. Experience supporting luxury motorcoach or commercial passenger transportation operations. Knowledge of alternative fuel or electric vehicle maintenance is a plus. On‑site position based in San Francisco, California. Combination of office and maintenance shop environments. Regular interaction with maintenance personnel, operations teams, vendors, and executive leadership. Occasional travel between company facilities and vendor locations. Participation in an on‑call rotation for emergency fleet support as needed.
