Job Relationships Responsible To: Store Manager / Assistant Store Manager / Director of Alcohol Teammates Supervised: None Inter-Relationships: Frequent contact with all teammates, customers, corporate office and vendors; occasional contact with teammates from other locations. Job Duties Manage the business aspects of the liquor department: keep current liquor license posted, take inventory, reorder supplies, manage budgets, set goals. Assist with training and hiring staff to provide excellent service to customers. Order and maintain inventory control to ensure product quality and turnover for maximum sales and gross profit. Oversee inventory of liquor department and bar, make objective decisions regarding operational choices in work procedures, recommend new products to Director of Alcohol, schedule and other decisions where multiple factors must be weighed to maximize operating results. Control damage and spoilage of products, ensuring proper disposition according to company policy. Maintain a friendly selling approach to customers by all bar teammates. Ensure that requests and complaints are handled promptly and courteously. Maintain cigar case and wine chiller; calculate wood fixture cleaning schedule. Check and verify liquor products received: confirm that items listed on vendor invoices match deliveries, check product quality, count or weigh conditions, turn in signed invoices to Receiving for payment, report any issues to Store Manager and Director of Alcohol. Maintain a safe work environment and keep equipment for teammates and customers appropriate. Ensure interior decorations are maintained as established by the Director of Alcohol. Prepare monthly wine and beer selections, including ad flyer features. Keep accurate refrigeration temperature logs and conduct frequent cost and retail analysis of new wine and beer offerings. Assist Bar and Front End when needed, build displays, unload trucks, break down loads, and stock product. Communicate and coordinate with Store Manager to provide feedback from the department. Follow approved procedures for receiving product, pricing, marking and restocking to ensure quality protection, accuracy, and product rotation. Conduct department walks to ensure Alcohol Gaming Division compliance and all alcohol regulations are followed. Delegate duties efficiently to achieve maximum performance of vendors, following up to assure satisfactory performance and results. Maintain signs, pricing, refrigerated cases, and display shelves through scheduled inspections. Ensure department compliance with company policies, programs, procedures, and guidelines. Work with vendors to identify root causes of issues and inefficiencies. Adhere to all company policies, programs, procedures, and guidelines. Interact constantly with customers. Perform holiday, weekend, and evening event work as required. Ensure that all loss prevention policies and goals are maintained at all times. Minimum Requirements Training and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent required; college background preferred. Three years experience in bar operations. Completion of a management training program or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Knowledge of various liquor, beers, and wine products. Knowledge and ability to operate bar equipment. Ability to read and write English. Good customer relations skills. Ability to calculate gross margins and retail prices. Ability to manage effectively. Licenses, Registration and Certification Must have a current alcohol server certificate before employment. Signature Store will pay the cost to obtain Beer Cicerone certification completed within the first 90 days of employment; test preparation outside the work schedule. Computer skills required. Working Conditions Frequent exposure to refrigerated storage areas and damp, humid conditions. Works on wet or slippery surfaces. Noise level normally moderate; can be extreme during use of power tools or other equipment. Subject to hazards when operating bar equipment. Subject to communicable disease. Physical Requirements Heavy work: lifting 50 to 100 pounds, and/or in excess of 20 pounds to move objects. Requires walking and/or standing for a significant degree. Must be able to climb, stand, bend, push or pull, twist, grasp, squeeze, stoop, kneel, squat, reach, handle, finger and feel. Assistance required if unable to safely lift beer kegs.
