Job description

Description The Vice President of Medical Care will lead efforts to ensure our medical practice is positioned to meet the future needs of our patients, staff, funding partners, and community stakeholders. This role is transformational in nature, endeavoring to challenge the status quo, and demonstrating deep understanding of providing care to historically marginalized communities. The individual in this position understands the business of health care, continuous quality improvement, clinical compliance activities, integration of public health and clinical care, and the social justice heritage of community health centers. This position is our acting Medical Director and Operational Lead. Responsibilities As primary care provider, treat a wide range of medical conditions, develop long‑term personal relationships with patients, develop individualized healthcare programs based on patient historical data, and offer continuous support and health management advice. Lead by example with high‑quality care service delivery during clinical care time. Lead clinical care strategic planning activities; develop goals, models, and initiatives aligned with the quadruple aim; monitor processes (outputs) and impact (outcomes). Develop annual visit volume and productivity targets across the system by provider, site, and service line. Identify opportunities for clinical improvement and or service line level; develop plans to act on those opportunities. Align people, services, and resources to maximize clinical quality, patient satisfaction, and efficient clinical operations. Aid clinical care teams through transitions; model adaptability and nimbleness among staff; champion an adaptive organizational culture that embraces change. Drive clinical integration across the system. Recruit new medical providers; partner with the Talent Office to design and implement recruitment and staff development strategies that purposefully build a patient care team that is reflective of communities and special populations served. Mentor and develop providers to enhance their clinical care competencies, improve patient experience, meet productivity expectations, and reduce burnout. In collaboration with the Talent Office, design and implement an effective system to evaluate, coach, and optimize medical personnel performance. Uplift providers and care team staff to perform at their highest abilities; provide high quality, hands‑on coaching to medical staff. Supervise, manage and collaborate with medical directors across our MCC sites. Oversee and facilitate the organization’s day‑to‑day operations of all service lines, Clinical Care Committee, the decision‑making meeting that develops and reviews clinical practice guidelines, policies and procedures. Manage the end‑to‑end credentialing and privileging process ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, HRSA requirements and internal processes. Champion the organization’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives to the clinical workforce. Collaborate with executive leaders, medical leaders, and others to facilitate organizational communication, goal setting, and effective decision making. Uplift the perspective of the patient in ELT decision‑making process. Represent the organization’s programs, services, and achievements accurately, positively, and professionally both internally and externally. Center the voice of the patient in your work inside and outside the organization. Deliver effective communication in a timely manner to those in the sphere of influence, including direct reports, provider leadership, clinical workforce, and clinical partners. Partner with the policy/advocacy team, including the President & Executive Officer, to advocate for the marginalized and underserved, and to persuade policymakers to address health inequities. Scan the proven practices in evidence‑based medicine across the globe to inform our culturally affirming care practices in a constant pursuit to improve health outcomes. Ensure the organization meets or exceeds regulatory requirements established by the U.S. Bureau of Primary Care (BPHC), Health Resources and Human Services Administration (HRSA), Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA), National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and other licensing/accrediting agencies. Provide direction, coaching, and leadership for the organization’s integrated team‑based care models, public health programs, and social determinant of health innovations to improve the health of our communities. Manage a comprehensive compliance strategy aligned with our company’s growth objectives and risk tolerance. Identify potential compliance risks and recommend proactive measures to mitigate them. Conduct regular assessments to identify compliance risks and vulnerabilities. Education And Experience Doctor of Medicine (MD/DO), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), or Advanced Practice Professional (NP, PA, CNM). 10+ years of administrative leadership experience in a multi‑site health care system and/or community health center. Previous experience leading positive financial results in an organization with an annual operating revenue of $20 million or more. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; exceptional proofing and editing skills. Experience leading and managing high‑functioning teams. 5+ years of administrative leadership and management overseeing clinical operations, compliance, quality improvement and healthcare administration. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Executive Leadership: Influential, articulate, and accomplished communicator with the ability to communicate with clarity, urgency, and power to diverse internal and external audiences including board and staff members, communities of color, business, policy makers, philanthropic investors, and social sector leaders. Ability to manage both strategic and tactical responsibilities, complete complex tasks, and deliver on a timely basis. Strong organizational and project management skills. Demonstrated event marketing and media relations experience. Technical Knowledge: Exceptional provider of care; applied knowledge of community health care service delivery, specifically to underserved, vulnerable populations. Mission Alignment: Commitment to excellence and passion for the organization’s mission; invested in improving the health outcomes of medically underserved communities. Decision Making and Problem Solving: Weighs all facts before making a decision and willing to take action within limits. Consults with superiors before taking action. Digests relevant information. Can listen and respond appropriately, discussing matters. Provides professional responses to internal patients and external vendors. High emotional intelligence and the ability to inspire trust and confidence. Flexibility and Dependability: Performs effectively when faced with varying operating conditions.
